Weather and Temperature Science Unit for Preschool and Kindergarten

Students will learn about weather systems, temperature and how to prepare for weather emergencies. This Unit supports the Next Generation Science Standards.
The “Science Kids” series is intended to help teachers implement developmentally appropriate, hands-on science activities for children in Preschool, Kindergarten and the early grades. The activities in these packets are based on the scientific method and encourage inquiry-based learning. All activities can be differentiated to meet the needs of your students.
As they work through the experiments in this packet, students will explore the following concepts:
1. The weather changes.
2. Weather includes cloud cover, wind, precipitation and temperature.
3. The sun warms the Earth.
4. We can use tools to measure the weather.
5. The weather determines some of our actions and activities.
Activities include:

Single Celled Organisms Adapted Notes and Review

This product includes vocabulary, notes, and review for students that are learning about single celled organisms.
This product covers the following: single celled organisms, single celled organisms and what they are, brief review of the 5 levels of cellular organization and where they are found in the body, healthy and unhealthy bacteria - how it is produced and where it is found, bacteria and how it breaksdown remains of dead animals and plants, single celled organisms - eubacteria, archabacteria, unicellular protists, unicellular fungi, diatoms, amoeba, paramecium, and euglena - what they are, where they are found, what they do, how they move, etc. are reviewed, how organisms get food, diffusion and osmosis - what they are and how what they do, reproduction of a single cell is called binary fission, how parent cells copy information and divide, and budding of single cells, and the process that occurs during budding. Charts are provided to show the process of a single cell reproducing - binary fission and the budding of a single cell.
Throughout the product, students will answer comprehension questions based on the pages of notes. Students will also fill in the missing blanks throughout the product that relates to notes that were reviewed on previous pages. Students will review charts that show the process of single cells reproducing and budding as well.

Freezing and Melting Science for Preschool and Kindergarten

Students will investigate the states of matter of water as it changes from frozen to liquid states. The “Science Kids” series is intended to help teachers implement developmentally appropriate, hands-on science activities for children in Preschool, Kindergarten and the early grades. The activities in these packets are based on the scientific method and encourage inquiry-based learning. All activities can be differentiated to meet the needs of your students.
Investigations in this unit include:

Rocks and Minerals Adapted Notes and Review

In this product, rocks and minerals are reviewed. The three kinds of rocks - sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous rocks are reviewed. Students will learn how each rock is formed, where minerals are found, the percentage of igneous rock that makes up the Earth's crust, examples of each type of rock are provided, how sedimentary rocks form, sediments that are found in our environment that make up sedimentary rocks, students will examine layers in rock and will answer comprehension questions when looking at the rock, the percentage of rock that covers the Earth's land, how weathering, transportation, precipitation, erosion, and deposition lead to the creation of sedimentary rocks and what each of these are. How sediment is carried is also reviewed, a list of sediments that make up sedimentary rock are presented, and students will also be provided with a chart showing the different layers of sediment in the ground, students will also see a chart that shows how sedimentary rocks are formed, how metamorphic rocks are made, where morph and meta come from, how rocks change, and a diagram of the rock cycle is also presented. Students will be required to label the rock cycle in this product as well. At the end of this product, students will complete a multiple choice and short answer review.
Throughout the product, students will answer short answer comprehension questions to ensure comprehension after reviewing notes.

Forms of Energy Adapted Notes and Review

In this product, different forms of energy are reviewed. Students will learn that energy exists in other forms, what energy is, how you can't always see energy, stored energy vs. energy in motion and examples for students to make connections with each, kinetic energy, examples of kinetic energy for students to make connections with it in real life, students will locate and circle the different kinds of kinetic energy, potential and kinetic energy and how it can go back and forth (picture explanations are also included to provide a visual), different forms of energy - electrical, light, sound, thermal, chemical, and mechanical energy are reviewed - their meanings and examples of each along with pictures so students can make connections with what they are learning in their personal life, what matter is and how it is in chemical energy, and energy transformation picture examples are provided. Students will then be required to write down the different types of energy that change to other kinds of energy when they are provided with picture examples. Students will also be required to draw picture and write down the forms of energy that were used to show energy transformation. At the end of the product, students can complete the review that includes short answer and multiple choice questions.
Throughout the product, students will answer short answer comprehension questions to ensure comprehension after reviewing each page of notes.
