1st Grade Earth Day Homeschool Curricula (by date, oldest first)

Perfect for Earth Day or any time, this Unit teaches children to take care of our Earth. This Unit supports the Next Generation Science Standards.

The “Science Kids” series is intended to help teachers implement developmentally appropriate, hands-on science activities for children in Preschool, Kindergarten and the early grades. The activities in these packets are based on the scientific method and encourage inquiry-based learning.

A they work through the experiments in this packet the students will explore the following concepts:

1. Human beings cause pollution on the Earth.
2. Pollution is harmful to the land, air and water of the Earth
3. People can help reduce and prevent the amount of pollution on the Earth.

Also included are four full color posters for you to display in your classroom, black and white posters for the children to color, journal pages and lots of extension activities.

Celebrate the Earth Day with these cute printable crowns! This set comes with five different styles… all in black and white so that the children can color their own crowns.

Simply print the crowns, decorate and cut out. The attached strip on each page can be taped or stapled to the crown to fit it around the student’s head. Additional strips are included if needed.

This curriculum supports the Next Generation Science Standards for kindergarten.

Taking Care of Pets

Through the activities in this packet, children will explore the things that animals need, including:

1. Food and Water

2. Habitat

3.Body Coverings

5. Companionship

Taking Care of Plants

As they learn about what plants need, the students will explore the following topics:

1. Life Cycle of a Seed

2. Plants Need Water

3.How Plants Absorb Water

4. Plants Need Soil

5. Dark or Light? (Plants need sunlight)

6. Parts of a Plant
