How can you use this resource?

⭐Build all the task cards in one sitting. This typically takes 1 – 2 hours to complete the set.

⭐Have the task cards available alongside STEM and STEAM bins, makerspaces, centers, tubs, busy boxes, morning baskets, or available for early finishers to complete using any available materials. Students can even draw their creations instead of building them!

⭐Complete one challenge a day in conjunction with the different ASK, BRAINSTORM, PLAN, CREATE, TEST, and REFLECTION prompts. These can be used as class/partner discussion, or as a writing or journal prompt.

Use the Discussion Questions to help guide this portion. Students can practice speaking and listening skills, using loud and clear voices, and giving full attention to the speaker. STEM challenge cards were created for each of the books. Most of the cards will have sentence from the book and a challenge activity for the students to complete. You decide what supplies you will provide for your students. There are so many different supplies to choose from: craft sticks, legos, pattern blocks, straws, linker cubes, buttons, q-tips, dough and toothpicks, and I’m sure you can think of lots more. Interesting scenarios, adventure and disaster, problem solving and learning, are all part of the experience when building these challenges.

Most building challenge task cards are independent from each other. “Build a boat,” or “build an airplane,” are common themes among the cards. While those are fantastic, and we have done many of them ourselves, I wanted to do something different and more cohesive and engaging for kids.

One of the exciting things about this set, is the randomness that occurs with each card. I strongly suggest that children pick only one card (waiting for other children participating to finish each card before moving on), and not previewing what is on the other cards prior to building. Try folding them up and placing into a hat, bowl, or basket to be picked one at a time, as order is not necessary in this set.

The only rule is to HAVE FUN and allow those imaginations to soar!

Children love building with bricks! There are 30 task cards that correspond to the seasonal activities and fall holiday. These are the perfect cards to use at centers to encourage students to use their creativity.

There are worksheets at three different levels, so students can draw or photograph, write about, and/or measuring their creations. There is a cover page included in case you decide to make their pages into a book.

How can you use this resource?

⭐Build all the task cards in one sitting. This typically takes 1 – 2 hours to complete the set.

⭐Have the task cards available alongside STEM and STEAM bins, makerspaces, centers, tubs, busy boxes, morning baskets, or available for early finishers to complete using any available materials. Students can even draw their creations instead of building them!

⭐Complete one challenge a day in conjunction with the different ASK, BRAINSTORM, PLAN, CREATE, TEST, and REFLECTION prompts. These can be used as class/partner discussion, or as a writing or journal prompt.

⭐Use them for public speaking practice. Allow students to build as many cards as predetermined, followed by show and tell with the class, or their families. Use the Discussion Questions to help guide this portion. Students can practice speaking and listening skills, using loud and clear voices, and giving full attention to the speaker. Encourage students to ask questions to their classmates.

⭐Perfect for partner or group work! Allow students to work with partners, or in groups with specific roles as they problem solve together.
