Move and breathe through a childhood classic. The Napping House by Don and Audrey Wood has been a favorite story in my classes for years, and with a librarian’s suggestion, I brought it to life through yoga for the first time in 2012. Now accompanied by our beautiful illustrations, we can use this yoga sequence to promote a lifelong love of learning, reading, and healthy habits.

Each of the characters in the story is paired with a yoga pose, and each page adds another character in order. As the sequence builds, the poses come together in a beautiful flow. Do the poses as you read, or read and then do the poses—whatever feels the best to you.

This lesson plan is a perfect resource for teachers, parents or clinicians who want bring the story to life with movement. We’ve included a story script and a list of poses so children can learn the yoga sequence.

How it Works:

1. Students may start at ANY card with their pencil and paper on a clipboard. If this is too much to carry: Adjust the activity, by “hiding” the cards around the classroom writing surfaces such as tables and desks and have a pencil at each station.
2. Write the number of the starting card in the top left square.
3. Look at the picture, say what it is and think about what letters/word matches.
4. Walk around the room searching for the letter/word match of the picture located in the oval in the top right of another card.
5. When found, write the answer on the line in the first box.
6. Following the arrow on their paper to box 2, write the number of this card in the box on the top left.
7. Repeat until all boxes are full. Students should return to starting card when completed.

I Have Who Has High Frequency Sight Word Games Fry 1st 100 Words List 1-4 Bundle These are great games to play with students and the focus is high frequency words. For these games I have used the words from Fry first 100 words. This is a bundle of my Fry First Hundred I have Who has games and includes lists 1-4 for a total of 100 words. These can also be purchased individually from my store.

These are great group activities to help students master sight words. Just cut the cards out and laminate for durability and they will be ready to use.
