Subitizing Domino Clip Cards || Numbers 1-12 || Domino Variations

By Pacific Street Playschool

Subitizing Domino Clip Cards || Numbers 1-12 || Domino Variations

These subitizing clip cards were created to be used in busy bins, activities for math center, an activity for small group instruction, or as an assessment tool.

What's Included?

. 22 black and white clip cards

. Single domino representations on each clip card

. 22 cards representing numbers 1-12

What is Subitizing?

Subitizing is a skill that involves quickly recognizing quantities without counting. As students develop their subitizing skills, they move through different phases, or levels, of subitizing:

  • Perceptual subitizing
This is the first phase of subitizing, and involves instantly recognizing small quantities, usually up to five. It's instinctive, and is often taught first because it's a building block for the next level. For example, a student might quickly name the quantity of four gems as "four".

  • Conceptual subitizing
This phase involves identifying the quantity of smaller groups within larger sets, and then combining them to name the total. For example, a student might see two fours in the eight of a domino. This phase requires more thought than perceptual subitizing.

How Do I Use These Cards?

. Simply print, cut, and laminate (these can be used over and over again for years to come)

. Encourage students to look at each card and group the numbers to get a total. This can be accomplished by counting each dot and adding together or by subitizing

. Promote fine motor skills by having students mark the correct answer with clothespins. You can differentiate for students by having them place buttons, pom-poms, or other small objects on the numbers as they identify them.

Suggested Uses:

. Assessment tool to determine students subitizing level

. Add to math centers for students to freely explore and count

. Add to morning boxes or busy boxes for students to complete

. Use as part of small group work to assess counting principles (stable order, correspondence, cardinality, abstraction, and order irrelevance).

. Use as part of transition times as (lining up, walking in halls, handwashing) to have students subitize while they wait

Number Comparison within 20 Greater Than, Less Than, and Equal To Cut and Paste

By Bright Horizons Learning

Engage young learners with this Greater Than, Less Than, or Equal To cut-and-paste number comparison activity for numbers within 20! Perfect for early math skills, this hands-on resource helps students understand comparison symbols (>, <, =), build number sense, and develop fine motor skills.

Teachers can use it in math centers, small groups, or as independent practice, making it a versatile tool for Pre-K to 1st-grade classrooms. The interactive format keeps students engaged while reinforcing essential comparison concepts, supporting both individual learning and group activities in foundational math.

This PDF includes a series of number comparison exercises designed for students to practice using the symbols "greater than" (>), "less than" (<), and "equal to" (=). Here’s a breakdown of what’s included:

  1. Number Comparison Prompts: A set of number pairs ranging from 0 to 20 for students to compare, with spaces for them to write the appropriate comparison symbol (> < =) between each pair. These comparisons help reinforce the concept of number magnitude.
  2. Cut-and-Paste Activity: At the end, students are provided with the symbols (> < =) to cut out and paste in the correct spots for each comparison. This hands-on activity adds an interactive element, encouraging engagement and supporting fine motor skill development.
  3. Independent Practice Format: The PDF is structured to be used independently or in a small group, allowing teachers to use it flexibly across different classroom settings.

Teachers can use this PDF as a versatile and engaging tool to help young students practice comparing numbers and understanding the concepts of "greater than," "less than," and "equal to." Here’s how it can be implemented in various classroom settings:

  1. Math Centers: Place this activity in a math center where students can independently work on each problem, deciding whether numbers are greater than, less than, or equal to each other. The cut-and-paste element adds a hands-on component, making it more interactive and ideal for tactile learners.
  2. Small Group Instruction: Teachers can use this PDF in small group settings to guide students through each comparison step-by-step, discussing each number pair and reinforcing the meaning of each symbol (> < =). This allows for more personalized support, especially for students needing extra help.
  3. Individual Practice: Distribute this PDF as an independent worksheet where students can work through the comparisons at their own pace. It’s a great way to reinforce skills learned in a lesson on comparison and order.
  4. Homework or Review Activity: Send this activity home for additional practice, or use it as a review exercise for students who need to solidify their understanding of number comparisons.
  5. Fine Motor Skill Development: The cut-and-paste component supports the development of fine motor skills, making it especially useful in kindergarten and early grade levels.

By using this resource, teachers can reinforce foundational math skills while encouraging student engagement and independence through a hands-on approach.

Please check the preview before purchasing this product to ensure it suits your students!
