Introduction to Abacus, Subtraction Number 5-9
By Lynette Yung
In the activity, the pre-k and kindergarten students focus on subtracting numbers 5-9 with the abacus.
This activity helps with number sense and solidifies the number relationships. Students will be able to visualize take away/subtract numbers; they will see items becoming less. This also introduces students to decomposing numbers. This resource also has fun activities, like a game of who wins, color by number, puzzles, and a maze
In this activity, we are subtracting numbers 5–9. This is contained in one column of the abacus and all the bottom beads. Abacus is easy to understand; it promotes tactile learning.
The abacus used has 1 bead on top and 4 beads on the bottom. This activity focuses on the top bead (has a value of 5) and the bottom beads (has a value of 1 for each bead).
All the bottom beads have a value of 1, and the top bead has a value of 5.
If you are curious about the wonders of abacus, you can check out my blog.

Winter Math Activity - Montessori Making 10 Bead Stair Snowman Extension Game
By Jessica Renee Montessori - JRMontessori
Are you looking for the perfect way to delight your little learners this holiday season? This Winter Math Activity – Montessori Making 10 Bead Stair Snowman Extension Game combines their love of snowmen with a fun way to practice math. This activity is perfect for the day before winter break, day after Christmas break, or any time you want to add a little winter fun!
Perfect for Montessori and lower elementary classrooms, this game brings the wintery outdoors inside and uses the colored bead stair to teach your students the combinations of numbers – 1-9 – which make ten. This is excellent preparation for linear addition with the Snake Game. Here’s a quick overview of the two activities included:
Activity 1: Match the Snowman Heads and Bodies: Add to the winter festivities with this fun matching game. Students need to match the snowmen heads and bodies in a way that help them in making ten. This also includes a handy ‘control of error’ to guarantee the answers are correct.
Activity 2: Create Combinations of 10 and Write Down the Equations: All your students need to do is create combinations of numbers which make ten (1 + 9, 4 + 6) and write down the equations. This a great way not only to practice math, but also to help your students better develop their skill in writing equations.
Give your students a winter-themed math lesson that will make the holidays extra festive this year. It’s a great way to combine learning and fun!

Montessori Math Bead Stair, Numbers 1-9 Worksheets, Counting & Recognition
By Jessica Renee Montessori - JRMontessori
Introduce your Kindergarten or Lower Elementary students to numeral and quantity with the Montessori Bead Stair (also called the Short Bead Stair). The booklets will save you time and will reinforce one to one correspondence as students count and color the bead bars from one to nine. Number 10 is addressed in the Golden Bead Booklets and 11–19 are introduced in the Teens Booklets.
Here are three reasons this resource will make things easier for you in the classroom:

Montessori Math 4 Digit by 1 Digit Multiplication, Stamp Game Task Cards | Small
By Jessica Renee Montessori - JRMontessori
These printable cards each have a 4-digit multiplication question on the front (in Montessori place value colors!) and the answer on the back is represented visually with the Stamp Game stamps. Self-correction is a breeze! These cards encourage independence and are perfect for children who are not yet reading.
You can purchase Operations Booklets separately for children to record their answers to these questions. You'll find your students much more engaged with the booklets than with recording in a notebook or on a worksheet. You might also like the Golden Beads version of these operations cards.
What's included:
☀ PDF with teacher information (preparation and presentation information)
☀ PDF with double-sided cards [10 static (no exchanging) questions and 10 dynamic (exchanging required) questions]. Each card is 5.5" x 4.25" and preparation is easy with no extra borders to cut off
