Clifford's Best Friend - A Story About Emily Elizabeth is a great book for students to read to learn about friendship, being a good friend, and the routine that Emily Elizabeth and Clifford follow throughout the day. Students will sequence events of what Emily Elizabeth did in the morning when she woke up, the activities that Emily Elizabeth and Clifford did together through the day are discussed, ways to be a good friend are reviewed and students will write about how they are a good friend as well. Students can answer these questions as the book is read to them, as they read the book independently or they can use the text for lookbacks once the book is finished. As students are learning the 52 primer sight words in this product, they will be provided with each word, an example of the word used in a sentence, and the opportunity to make up a sentence themselves using the word. I find that with my students who are Deaf/hard of hearing/ELL, when they make up sentences using the newly learned sight word, it helps them to remember how to spell the word, the meaning, and how it is used. My students love booklets of any kind that they can refer back to. Once they have come up with their sentences, they can include pictures that they print and cut out, draw pictures freehand, or find pictures in a magazine that they can add to each page of the pre-primer sight word booklet that matches each sentence they come up with. This gives students the opportunity to connect what they are learning about in the classroom with their own personal interests. In this packet, students will learn what a neighbor is, what a neighborhood is, how to use a map, how to use a map key, how to use a compass rose, using directions - north, south, east, and west, where neighborhoods are found - near oceans, mountains, plains/farms, or rivers. Students can do this activity with support or independently. At the end of the packet there are questions where students can answer comprehension questions with help or independently.

Flat Stanley: Stanley's Christmas Adventure written by Jeff Brown is a cute holiday book that all of my students enjoyed. Students can complete this packet of reading comprehension questions, finding definitions of challenging words, making up sentences using those challenging words, and paragraph writing independently or with support.

Arthur's Thanksgiving is a great book to read for students to learn about Thanksgiving and the traditions that can be followed with this holiday, students will also learn how plays are set up, how to work together with peers, and how to solve problems. Students are presented with a variety of comprehension questions based on what happens in the book, Arthur's Thanksgiving. Students can answer these questions as the book is read to them, as they read the book independently or they can use the text for lookbacks once the book is finished.

With this community helpers packet, students can write sentences about 9 different community helpers and what they do they do to help their community. Students are provided with possible unfamiliar vocabulary words on each page that they can use to help them to write each sentence independently or with minimal support. This is helpful for my students who are in need of material that is adapted and is also useful for students who need more support with spelling and identifying vocabulary words.
