Have you tried Integrated Listening and Speaking activities with your Spanish students?  Use these IPA activities with the theme of Daily Routine to get students listening and responding- just like in tests like AAPPL for the Seal of Biliteracy!  Integrated Performance Assessments mimic real-world interactions, and these activities are great practice for communication!

These no-prep activities include everything you need to assign and go!  Each activity has 5 audio links for a total of 10 prompts.  Students listen to the audio and record a logical response.  They will hear common expressions used on the AAPPL Test like “Hazme preguntas, cuéntame and dame detalles”.  The prompts and responses require the use of the present tense, though one prompt refers “last night”.

The teacher script allows you to correct with ease or even record your own voice if you choose. There are lots of notes and ideas for teachers so you know just how to use this activity! Finally, students can self-assess with the included rubric.  The 2 activities are created with different levels of complexity, so you can differentiate for different levels amongst your students, or use them at different points in your unit!

French Passé Composé être ou avoir 50 Practice cards

This is a set of 50 practice cards to help your students practice and master using 50 verbs - regular, irregular and reflexive - in the passé composé with both helping verbs. This set of cards provides an excellent way to review forming the passé composé your more advanced students who know avoir and être as a helping verb. Each card displays a sentence in French in the present tense that students should transform in the passé composé. You can also use a s a written test to check for agreements.

Avoir mal à + body parts - French grammar practice cards for beginners

This resource includes two sets of 32 practice cards for a total of 64 to help your students learn and master avoir mal à + body parts. These cards are also a wonderful way to practice AU, À LA, À L', and AUX. Save 30% in my bundle of "avoir mal" resources.

The first set presents sentences in which students fill in the blanks with present tense conjugations. Each card uses the expression avoir mal à.

Example: J'___ mal à la tête.

The second set presents English sentences for students to translate to French.

Example: (Je) My head hurts.

A vocabulary list of body parts used in these practice cards is provided, including plurals when necessary. A quizlet study set link is provided.

Need a summer homework assignment for your incoming AP Spanish*®* students? Look no further- this Google Doc assignment is already done for you! Digital or printable, this summer homework has everything you need. Students will read, listen, write and then speak when school starts again! Students will have guided choices about what they choose to read and listen to!

There are very clear, specific instructions for each part, and they are written in English to avoid any misunderstandings over the summer. Also included in this resource is the rubric to grade the writing and speaking portions, a graphic organizer for students to use to help them be sure they have completed each part, and a note-taking sheet for the listening section.

This assignment will keep students using their Spanish over the summer without expecting too much time on homework in the summer months. It will also give teachers a way to assess where each student is in their speaking and writing skills at the beginning of the school year! Best of all- this assignment, once it's yours, can be edited and customized to suite your preferences and your students' needs! Breathe easy as your finish your school year!

How can I use this product?

• I recommend asking your colleagues to distribute this assignment to incoming AP Spanish students at least a week before the end of the school year to give students time to read it over, think about it and ask questions.
• Be sure students understand what is expected and when their summer work is due. I always say that it's due on the first day of school, but often I will allow students to peer edit or ask last minute questions on the first or second day of school.
• By the 3rd day of a new school year, I put students into groups of about 4. I sit with a group and grade their oral presentations as they say them. The other groups are working on different assignments. I space out how many groups per day I listen to based on 1) what kind of schedule we have (we have had several in the past few years due to Covid and other factors!) and 2) spending at least some time each day with my whole class so I can establish routines and get to know them.
• I ask students to report to their small groups because it eases anxiety for students who don't know me or their classmates well, and who are worried about their ability to speak in Spanish and about their first grade for AP Spanish.
• Teachers can choose to grade the speaking and writing for a formal grade or just use their performance as a baseline for the year.

Practice presentational writing with 6 tasks that increase in difficulty, just like the AAPPL Test! Students will type in their answers to the writing prompts, each one asking them to do a little more with their language. The scoring guidelines of I-3 are also included. This test prep activity can be used online or it can be printed.

The writing prompts are in English, so this practice is appropriate for any World Language student!

French Futur Proche with the Imperfect - 50 Practice Cards - Distance Learning

This is a set of 50 practice cards for students who are learning how to use the futur proche in the past using the imperfect tense. The verbs which are in the infinitive form are all regular -ER, -IR, and -RE verbs. Students fill in the blanks with the verb aller in the imperfect tense. These cards will help students grasp the difference between I am going to do something VS I was going to do something.

The instructions on each card indicate that aller should be conjugated in the imperfect tense, then the sentence should be spoken, and students should then translate. All of the cards are numbered to match the answer key, which includes English translations of each sentence.

This AP Spanish® oral presentation project about identity is one of my very favorites!  Your AP Spanish® students will love exploring their own identity and also learning about their teacher's and their classmates’ identities.  Everyone will enjoy this short project! And teachers, you will love this project for 2 reasons; you will get to know your students in a new way and you can combine speaking, listening and writing in one project!

Using the metaphor of an iceberg, students will tell their class about the things that are obvious to all about their identity, and also share some things that hide below the surface.  

As students present, the others take notes on what they reveal. As a follow up assignment, students (and teacher too!) write short letters to each other to acknowledge the courage it takes to speak in public, especially about the parts of yourself that may not be visible to the world. Receiving letters from their classmates and teacher is often something that students will remember forever and treasure. It's a great bonding experience for the class!

The student instructions and rubric are included, as well as some helpful tips about how teachers can make these presentations work either in person or with students online.

• I assign this as an interim oral assessment
• Students have several days to organize their thoughts for the presentation
• Students may print the iceberg image and use it to make bulleted notes
• There are many ways to have students present their Icebergs, depending on the size of your class, how much class time you would like to use, and if you students are in person, hybrid or online.  All of the options are explained in the included teacher notes!
• During the presentations, all the listeners take notes on what they hear
• After the presentations, all listeners will write short letters to their classmates
• Collect students' icebergs and hang them up in your classroom!
