The familiar story of Red Riding Hood is a perfect way to practice and assess your students’ knowledge of the preterite and imperfect tenses in Spanish with easy differentiation. Students love these activities because they use stories that they are already familiar with, making them more comprehensible, turning this tricky grammar topic from dry and boring to engaging and fun!

This resource makes a great emergency sub plan (2 days’ worth of material), homework assignment, or formative assessment. These stories are great for Spanish 2 or as a review of the Preterite vs Imperfect tenses at the beginning of Spanish 3 or 4.

Prepping this resource couldn't be any easier - just print out the pages you want to use with your students and make enough copies! Don't have time to make copies or have a last-minute sub? This resources includes two versions of the same story:

• Version A has the verbs already conjugated, and the students must choose between the preterite and imperfect tenses of the verb.
• Version A also includes true/false comprehension questions in the past tense and students must correct the false statements.
• Version B includes only the infinitive, so they must first decide which tense to use (preterite or imperfect) and then fill in the blank with the correct form of the verb.
• Version B also includes comprehension questions to be answered in complete sentences in Spanish in the past tense.

Each version of the story with questions is three pages long. The two different versions make differentiation simple!

This AP Spanish® oral presentation project about identity is one of my very favorites!  Your AP Spanish® students will love exploring their own identity and also learning about their teacher's and their classmates’ identities.  Everyone will enjoy this short project! And teachers, you will love this project for 2 reasons; you will get to know your students in a new way and you can combine speaking, listening and writing in one project!

Using the metaphor of an iceberg, students will tell their class about the things that are obvious to all about their identity, and also share some things that hide below the surface.  

As students present, the others take notes on what they reveal. As a follow up assignment, students (and teacher too!) write short letters to each other to acknowledge the courage it takes to speak in public, especially about the parts of yourself that may not be visible to the world. Receiving letters from their classmates and teacher is often something that students will remember forever and treasure. It's a great bonding experience for the class!

The student instructions and rubric are included, as well as some helpful tips about how teachers can make these presentations work either in person or with students online.

Have you tried Integrated Listening and Speaking activities with your Spanish students?  Use these IPA activities with the theme of the environment to get students listening and responding- just like in tests like AAPPL for the Seal of Biliteracy!  Integrated Performance Assessments mimic real-world interactions, and these activities are great practice for communication!

These no-prep activities include everything you need to assign and go!  Each activity has 5 audio links for a total of 10 prompts.  Students listen to the audio and record a logical response.  They will hear common expressions used on the AAPPL Test like “Hazme preguntas, cuéntame and dame detalles”.

Do you struggle to incorporate engaging, high-interest readings in your Spanish classroom? This amazing cultural reading activity about three interesting pets that come from Mexico will get your kids excited to read! These readings, which include comprehension questions, can be used as-is or as a jumping off point for interpersonal speaking activities or presentational speaking and writing activities (not included in this download). They make an excellent addition to a unit related to the environment, animals, or families, but they can also be used as free reading options.

Have you tried Integrated Listening and Speaking activities with your Spanish students?  Use these IPA activities with the theme of childhood memories to get students listening and responding- just like in tests like AAPPL for the Seal of Biliteracy!  Integrated Performance Assessments mimic real-world interactions, and these activities are great practice for communication!

These no-prep activities include everything you need to assign and go!  Each activity has 5 audio links for a total of 1o prompts.  Students listen to the audio and record a logical response.  They will hear common expressions used on the AAPPL Test like “Hazme preguntas, cuéntame and dame detalles”. 

The teacher script allows you to correct with ease or even record your own voice if you choose. There are lots of notes and ideas for teachers so you know just how to use this activity! Finally, students can self-assess with the included rubric.  The 2 activities are created with different levels of complexity, so you can differentiate for different levels amongst your students, or use them at different points in your unit!

• Spanish students in Year 2 and up
• Students learning vocabulary related to childhood activities and memories
• Students learning the past tense

How can I use this product?

• Assign via Google Classroom or other learning platform (students can work at their own pace)
• Play the audios for the class
• Students can record in your language lab or other purchased software OR they can use a FREE online recorder and paste their audio links into the assignment
• Use the 2 activities to differentiate for students OR
• Use the 2 activities at different points in the unit

A debate can be the perfect way to motivate your AP Spanish® students and to test their skills in listening and presentational speaking!  This debate makes a great end-of-unit assessment and can also serve as an alternative assignment for students who are not taking the AP® Test to work on while their classmates review/prepare for the exam.  Students LOVE choosing controversial topics about World Challenges and working in teams to get the audience to agree with their side of the issue!
