Completed with a partner, students will analyze how writers use metaphors in poetry by looking at examples. The PDF provides multiple examples to guide students. They will then read and analyze a mentor poem and utilize the same structure to write their poem. They will love creating their poems and watching their ideas come to life! This well-organized activity allows students to effortlessly become poets, while thinking about concise and precise word choice, counting syllables to create rhythm, getting exposure to high-quality examples, and learning something new! This project should take about 2 weeks, from start to finish and is perfect for display.

I always choose Finalistsbased on poem structure, meaning and how they visualized their metaphor. I then ask another teacher to select 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. And of course, the winners get a prize!

Writing a biography is a fun and interesting project for your students. This provides them with the opportunity to learn about someone that interests them and share it with their peers! This packet includes information to share with your students about what a biography is, why do we write a biography, and rules to follow when writing a biography. This packet also includes an example showing the process that is used to write a biography and the steps that are taken to add onto a biography to be sure it includes a beginning, middle and end. On the last few pages, it includes a template to help students come up with possible story ideas, add onto each paragraph they will include in their biography, and a reference sheet. Writing a fable can be a fun and interesting project for your students. This provides them with the opportunity to use creativity while writing their fable and share it with their peers!
This product includes information to share with your students about what a fable is, why we write a fable, possible lessons that can be learned when writing a fable, who a fable is written for, possible options students can choose to publish their fable, rules to follow when writing a fable, using a strong opening compared to a weak opening in the first paragraph of your fable, tips that are useful to write a great fable, the layout of the fable is provided, an example of a fable is included in this product that includes an idea template, planning the fable with more in depth ideas, and an example of a fable rough draft is included in this product. After the example fable is read, students can answer 4 comprehension questions about the fable. Students will are also provided with a template that includes an area for 3 fable ideas, and once they choose their fable, they can add onto their fable using the idea chart. Templates are included after the example along with a rough draft template and reminder checklist so students remember to go back and check their work once it is completed.

This packet includes information to share with your students about what an animal research report is, topic ideas, why an animal research report is written, what is shared in an animal research report, who the audience will be, how the completed animal research report will be published, rules to follow when writing an animal research report, where to locate information and the possible sources one could find when completing an animal research report, opening paragraph tips to hook the reader, tips that make a great animal research report, and an idea that shows the structure of an animal research report are included in this product
An example of three possible writing topics, a completed KWL chart, and a brainstorming chart that will serve as a guide when writing the rough draft of the animal research report are included in this product. An example of a rough draft on giant pandas, and an example of the sources that were used to write this animal research report are also provided to help support students and serve as a guide to help them when writing their own rough draft. Templates are included after the example along with a rough draft template and reminder checklist, so students remember to go back and check their work once it is completed.
Students can also complete the questions that are included with this product about their animal, such as what the name of you animal?, where does your animal eat?, how much does your animal weigh? Etc. Students will also be required to draw a picture of their animal. Using this template may be better to use with students who require the animal research report to be adapted.

Writing a friendly letter is a fun and interesting project for students when they are writing to someone they know or just met and want to know more about. Students will learn why we write friendly letters, who we write friendly letters to, what to include in a friendly letter, how you will publish your friendly letter, rules to follow when writing a friendly letter, tips that will help when writing a friend letter, different closings you can use in your friendly letter, 2 examples of friendly letters are included in this packet and 5 friendly letter templates, addressing an envelope, a list of state abbreviations, and street suffixes and their abbreviations are included in this product. After examples of the friendly letter and addressing an envelope are reviewed, students will answer review comprehension questions to ensure they understand how to write a friendly letter and address an envelope.

Writing an informational paragraph is an important writing project that gives students time to conduct research on a specific topic that is of interest to them. It sets the foundation for having students write an informational essay. Once they are finished with their masterpiece, they can share it with their friends and family members. This packet includes information to share with your students about what informational writing is, why we complete informational writing tasks, what steps to follow when writing the topic sentence, supporting sentences, and conclusion, how to make our writing flow so that it makes sense to the reader, and tips to look for when rereading and editing. This packet also includes an example showing the process that is used to complete an informational paragraph. Using this guide, students will write and complete a simple or complex informational paragraph. An example of a completed graphic organizer, an example of an informational paragraph, graphic organizer template, and two rough draft /final draft templates are included with this packet as well.
