Students map the US military locations listed on the task sheet and then use their research to list the US Naval ships lost and the cost in lives as a reflection on the impact of the attack.
Comprising of a single activity sheet with instructions embedded on the activity sheet. Use as A4 or enlarge to A3 (I prefer A3 size sheets). This is supported with an introduction Slide Deck (PowerPoint file)

Australian History - World War 1 - Silent shuffle source analysis

Looking for a sources based task to introduce Australian in 1914 lined to world war 1. This no prep lesson is a great starter. It also allows you to quickly assess the students preexisting source analysis skills. Each A3 pages contains 1 source with instructions. There is a range of images from enlistment related and general photos of Australian life.
Develop student source skills
Source skills are central skills in historical study that we need to develop in our students. The more exposure to a range of sources and feedback is the fastest way to develop these skills.
This resource includes:
- 20 pages of sources covering the period of 1914 and the Australian declaration of war in 1914 on Germany.
- There is also a blank page to create your own sources.
- Task instruction sheet
- The sources are limited in number to match normal senior school class sizes.
How to use the task:
- Spread your students out to be sitting alone.
- Each student gets a start source.
- They have 3 minutes for the first source
- Each student annotates the sources, identifying context, people, places, message, usefulness and so forth. They may also write questions that need more research on the sources for other students to consider.
- After 3 minutes the students rotate the source to the next student (Clockwise).
- The student then reads and fills in the gaps on the new sources.
- Repeat until all students have annotated all sources.
- You will needs to reduce the time foreach sources as the students fill the pages towards the end. By the last source theygenerally only have 1.5 minutes.
- When they received back their original sources, they will then summaries the important annotations.
- Teacher led class discussion on selected sources.

- Propagada posters
- Photos
- Newspaper articles
- 1 blank template for you to create your own

World War 2 - Mapping and annotating the major battles of Europe with Slide deck

This complete no prep great for emergency sub with lesson plan for World War 2 mapping of European Battles activity with an introduction slide deck for middle/high school students of history. Student analysis the map with the following question: "Having mapped out the major battles of World War lI in Europe, how did the outcomes of these battles shape the course of the war and the future of Europe?" Allowing students to draw on their existing knowledge and apply it to the mapping activity.
Two styles of maps (Within without borders) to allow differentiation based upon your students
Comprising of a single activity sheet with instructions embedded on the activity sheet. Use as A4 or enlarge to A3 (I prefer A3 size sheets). This is supported with an introduction Slide Deck (PowerPoint file)

- 2 types of European maps to support scaffolding

Do your middle/high school students need a no prep activity to refine their sources skills on the Persecution of the Jews by Nazi Germany. Save time in locating sources with this no prep resource. Each postcard page contains 2 sources and 5 source standard related questions. Use the material in these no preparation challenges for first time task or retrieval activity.

Source skills are central skills to develop in our students. Repetition on a unique set of sources is an effective way to develop their skills. The task can be used as a new source or as a retrieval bank of sources. You can supply each sheet with 2 sources or cut the sheets to create 40 individual source tasks.
This resource includes:
20 pages of sources covering the period around the Persecution of the Jews. Total of 40 individual sources. The images are suitable for school with no confronting images included within the pack. There is no completed answer as experienced history teacher could provide support. The task can be student led with student debate on the interpretations.
2 sources per page.
Each postcard includes the following standard questions:
- What is the content of the source?
- What is the message?
- What is the context?
- What is the purpose?
- Usefulness scale: Limited to very useful scale.
