• Version A has the verbs already conjugated, and the students must choose between the preterite and imperfect tenses of the verb.
• Version A also includes true/false comprehension questions in the past tense and students must correct the false statements.
• Version B includes only the infinitive, so they must first decide which tense to use (preterite or imperfect) and then fill in the blank with the correct form of the verb.
• Version B also includes comprehension questions to be answered in complete sentences in Spanish in the past tense.

Each version of the story with questions is between two and three pages long. The two different versions of every story make differentiation simple!

How does it work?

In this escape room, students will try to escape out of the Inquisitor's dungeon of gloom and doom by solving 5 different puzzles, discovering a hidden message, and finding clues along the way.

• Plot Diagram: In the first task, students must order scrambled plot points from The Pit & the Pendulum and place them in the correct spot on Freytag's Pyramid. Highlighted boxes will reveal the code.
• Figurative Language: In the second task, students must identify 7 types of figurative language within the story. Highlighted boxes in the correct answers will reveal the code.
• Jig Saw: In the third task, students must solve a colorful jig saw puzzle that when intact, displays an important quote from the story.
• Close Read: In the fourth task, students must answer challenging multiple choice questions about T_he Pit & the Pendulum_ that when correct, will reveal the code.
• Hidden Message: In the fifth and final task, students must discover the hidden message (a quote from The Pit & the Pendulum) using clues from the first four tasks.

Do your Spanish students struggle in interpersonal speaking and conversations?  Have you tried Integrated Listening and Speaking activities with your Spanish students?  Use these IPA activities to get students listening and responding- just like in tests like AAPPL for the Seal of Biliteracy!  Integrated Performance Assessments mimic real-world interactions, and these activities are great practice for communication!

These no-prep activities include everything you need to assign and go!  Each theme comes with 2 activities with  5 audio links for each, for a total of 10 listening prompts.  Students listen to the audio and record a logical response.  They will hear common expressions used on the AAPPL Test like “Hazme preguntas, cuéntame and dame detalles”. 

Each activity has a teacher script that allows you to correct with ease or even record your own voice if you choose. There are lots of notes and ideas for teachers so you know just how to use this activity! These forms use real-world examples of monthly budgets and saving goals. Students will use their learned knowledge of needs, wants, incomes and expenses to identify these items in monthly budgets. Students will practice identifying and calculating the amount of money needed for a desired expense (ex. video game or trip) and calculating how much money will need to be saved each month in order to attain the desired expense. Students will also examine the given budgets to calculate individuals total income, expenses, money saved, and identify additional ways for individuals to save. How/When To Use the Scenario Task Cards

► Role-Playing: Students have the opportunity to engage in collaborative role-playing exercises, either in pairs or groups, where they act out diverse scenarios to showcase appropriate responses. These activities serve as effective tools for demonstrating the adept handling of challenging situations, emphasizing the importance of considering others' perspectives and feelings. Ultimately, participating in these role-playing exercises can enhance confidence, communication, and assertiveness skills.

► Icebreaker: This can be a great way to start a meeting, training session, or team-building activity. It’s also a great way to get students to get to know each other and buy into the purpose of an upcoming activity or lesson.

► Play Writing Exercise: Students can work in groups to create skits or scenes then perform the skits for the class and demonstrate appropriate responses.

► Writing Response: Students can be given a scenario to read and then write their responses. Students can switch papers with a partner who then reads their responses and determines whether they agree/disagree with their responses/approaches to these real-life scenarios/ situations.

► Discussion: Students have the opportunity to engage in group or whole-class discussions centered around the Scenario Task Cards. Topics of discussion may include considerations such as, "What factors should we take into account about the situation and other people's perspectives and feelings before responding?"
