The book, Best Friends by Shannon Hale and Leuyen Pham is great for children ages 7 - 13 years old, as they can relate with Shannon, the friends she makes along the way, the friendships she struggles to maintain, the lack of self confidence she has and she becomes more confident along the way, learning that it is okay not to be friends with everyone, the importance of friendship and not following the crowd or what your friends want you to do, doing things that you want to do - being a leader instead of a follower, and how to handle stressful situations, anxiety, conflict, and bullying. Students will follow Shannon along as she figures out where to fit in while in 6th grade and gets ready for junior high school. The comprehension questions in this product relate with the text as well as students own experiences. Vocabulary words, their meanings, and example sentences are presented in the packet. Students can also write vocabulary words in sentences. As the book is being read aloud, as students are reading the book or after the book has been read, students can answer the comprehension questions in this packet.
