The only way to escape the room and save Christmas is by solving 5 different skills-based puzzles about A Christmas Carol to help Scrooge remember the lessons he learned last night.

• Plot it Out: In the first task, students must order the major plot points of A Christmas Carol on Freytag's Pyramid. When ordered correctly, letters in the shaded boxes on the chart form their first code.
• VocaBah Humbug: In the second task, students must match the vocabulary words from A Christmas Carol with their definitions by drawing a line connecting them. Letters not intersected by these lines will form their second code word. Clue cards using the words in context are included.
• Criss-Cross: In the third task, students must complete a crossword puzzle about major plot points, characters, setting, figurative language, and quotes from the story. Circled letters within the crossword, once unscrambled, reveal the code.
• Say What: In the fourth task, students must match notable quotes with the characters who said them. When cards are matched correctly, the fourth code is revealed.
• Missing Word: In the final task, students must assemble a jig saw puzzle that forms a notable quote from the story with one missing word. Once the puzzle is assembled and students figure out the missing word, they may escape the room and save Christmas.

French Christmas skit - Listening and reading comprehension - Noël

This is a French dialogue about Christmas between two people. The title of this skit is Le Père Noël est occupé. Short skits or dialogues like this one can be used in many ways during the weeks leading up to Christmas.

I've included a 4 step lesson plan which includes listening comprehension, reading comprehension, answering comprehension questions, and acting out the skit with a partner or in small groups.

This skit can also be used as an individual reading comprehension assessment. 14 reading comprehension questions are included. Check out all of my Christmas resources for the French classroom here.

The skit can be printed on one side of a sheet of paper and the questions on the other for a really easy, no prep Christmas activity. The grammar level is intermediate.

Most of the verbs are in the present or passé composé, and very few pronouns are used. Your students will learn a lot of new Christmas vocabulary, and they're going to have a great time with this activity! Everything is written in French only.

These French speaking prompt cards are perfect for reinforcing grammar, vocabulary, and getting your students to speak French together! Very low prep. Just print and cut out the cards and you're ready to go! Check out my Noël - French Taboo Speaking Game for another fun way to get your students speaking about this theme.

30 question cards are included. Almost all of the est-ce que questions are asked in the tu form and require students to reply using je. Some of the questions encourage oui and non responses, but never without pushing for a bit more information like asking pourquoi. The questions include le présent, le passé composé et le futur proche.

All cards are visually stimulating and feature a circle to punch out in the upper left corner so that you can print, laminate, cut out, punch holes and hook the cards together with a ring. Using these cards this way makes it easy to pull them out year after year to use as NO PREP speaking activities.

There are many ways you can use this set of speaking cards:

➤ Print, cut out, laminate , punch holes and attach on a ring for small groups to ask and answer questions.

➤ Use as a warm-up speaking activity with a conversation partner. As students enter the classroom have them choose 2-3 cards from a box.

➤ Students who finish their work earlier than others can choose a few of the cards and write out correct answers to false statements.

➤ Use as exit tickets. Give each student a card before the end of class and as they walk out of the room they tell the teacher their answer.

➤ Stations: Put students into groups and divide the cards amongst them. Have groups rotate to a new station as they finish the cards.

➤ Scoot: Put one card on each desk in the classroom. Give each student a response sheet and set a timer to give them just enough time to answer true or false and to correct the false statements. When the timer rings students move on to the next desk and the next question. All cards are numbered so it is simple to stay organized. Full instructions are included.

➤ Use the cards with board games. Students must answer a question in order to move.

➤ Use the cards as an icebreaker activity at the beginning of the school year or right after school holidays.

➤ Great resource for tutoring sessions and vocabulary building.

Taboo is a fun French speaking and listening game where one student has to guess a word based on clues given in French by other students. The catch is that they cannot mention anything that is included in a list of taboo words.

All of the words on each card are written in French and English. This is very useful as many of the words will be new to students whether they are beginners or very advanced. You can easily modify this game to play it with all levels!
