Lesson Plan on the Civil Rights Movement
By Bright Classroom Ideas Marketplace
This 90-minute high school lesson explores key milestones of the American Civil Rights Movement from 1909 to the present. Using the YouTube video "Turning Points in Civil Rights History," students are introduced to pivotal events, legislation, and grassroots efforts that shaped the fight for equality.
The lesson begins with a warm-up discussion to activate prior knowledge, followed by a guided viewing of the video with fill-in-the-blank notes. Students then complete a chronological timeline activity and engage in deeper analysis through group discussion and a critical thinking task that connects historical movements to current civil rights issues. A brief review quiz wraps up the session to reinforce learning.
The included student worksheet features a variety of activities—guided notes, a timeline sort, a written reflection, and a quiz—with an answer key provided for easy assessment. This lesson not only builds historical understanding but also encourages students to think critically about ongoing struggles for justice and equality in modern society.

Why did Trump win the 2024 US Presidential Election? Explainer PowerPoint
By Mark Barrett
This is a 29-slide PowerPoint presentation which considers why Donald Trump won the 2024 US Presidential election.
It is suitable for all students 14+ in Politics or Citizenship classes.
Introduction: The presentation starts with an overview of the election results, highlighting the contentious nature of the election and the significant public and media attention it received. It also mentions Trump’s unexpected victory and the various factors influencing the electorate, including political, social, and economic factors.
It considers things like the handling of Key Issues and Policy Stances: Trump’s stances on key issues such as immigration, healthcare, and foreign policy resonated with voters. He emphasized a tough stance on immigration, proposed healthcare reforms, and prioritised American interests in foreign policy.
The PowerPoint also considers the reasons for Kamala Harris’ loss including perceived ineffectiveness as Vice President, campaign strategy and messaging failures, lack of enthusiasm and voter turnout, negative media coverage, and internal party divisions.
The PowerPoint ends with some issues to think about and these may form the basis of discussion or debate,

The Bill of Rights - What It Means To Me!
By YourTeachingDoc
Students often can/will recite the basics of SOME of the Bill of Rights but often do not know how they apply to their personal life. They believe that it was written years ago and does not have any relevant meaning to the HERE and NOW. With this interactive activity, my US History and Government classes dived into the Bill of Rights and learned how to apply each of the Amendments to their personal life. This brought about outstanding debates in class (and online) about civil rights and liberties.
This was created as a PDF document to use in the classroom. There is also a Digital Learning Format where it can be assigned to students to complete in a virtual setting such as Google Classroom, Canvas, etc.
I hope your students enjoy this as much as mine did!
