The U.S. Women’s History Curriculum- Part 1 (1600-1920) contains Reading Assignments and Worksheets, Primary Source Analysis and DBQ’s and Power Point Lessons covering seven different eras.

This curriculum unit covers women’s experiences, contributions and perspectives from the pre-Columbian Native American era through the turn of the century, but also including the culmination of the Women's Suffrage Movement with the passage of the 19th Amendment.

The U.S. Women’s History Curriculum – Part 1 is an ever-evolving curriculum unit that includes not just the listed resources but any other resources that will be added in the future.

This curriculum unit can stand alone as its own course or can serve to supplement your United States History curriculum or AP United States History curriculum. These materials provide a more nuanced and complex look at how women participated in American society than is usually given in standard textbooks.

For 8th Grade through 12th Grade students, the Reading Assignments and Worksheets are excellent summaries of women’s experiences that are completed individually or as group exercises. Reading assignments are usually 2-3 pages with 1-2 page worksheets.

For APUSH students, the Primary Source Analysis and DBQ’s are excellent opportunities for students to delve deeper into questions relating to developments, changing attitudes and policies relating to women during critical times in U.S. History. These resources usually include anywhere from 9 to 25 primary sources which vary from excerpts from books, letters, diaries, journals, newspaper articles, lectures and more, photographs, drawings, paintings, graphs, charts, maps and more. They provide excellent practice in identifying change/continuity over time (CCOT), cause/effect and in assessing significance of events.

Teachers can deliver the Power Point Lessons live or can record them for online viewing by their students. Power Point Lessons are usually 12-20 slides.

When coming across an unknown word, a student can use other words in the text that are usually in the same sentence or nearby sentences that provide clues to the meaning of the unfamiliar word. 1. Figurative Language Short Passage Bundle

This includes four passages with 3 close reading and writing worksheets each - for a total of 12 high-quality worksheets! Answer Keys Included!

Figurative Language Short Passage Sets are a no-prep, printable close reading activity that's perfect for middle school and high school. Each passage has between 206-226 words and is filled with between 14-19 examples of figurative language, such as hyperbole, metaphor, simile, and personification. I’ve found that although my students can tell me the definition of these terms, simile is the only one they can truly pick out in a text. As a result, their writing is filled with overused similes that need work! These figurative language passage sets are rigorous, use higher-level words and phrases, and in addition to merely identifying the different types, students will be asked to discuss the impact it has on the reader, as they’re asked to do on standardized testing.

Simply print and go! There is truly no preparation needed, which is why this set is perfect to leave for sub plans, bell ringers, homework, test prep, review or assessment!

Activity:
Students can complete all three worksheets in each set as part of a packet, but I suggest using one each day. If you teach allusion, alliteration, idiom, or onomatopoeia, you can ask students to include those in Task 2 where they will be asked to continue the passage using a similar writing style. I have left some blanks on the checklist for this very purpose.

Reflection:
The class can review the answers and comments as a whole group when the activity is complete. You’ll be surprised how much better they’ll get at figurative language after being exposed to some high-quality examples!

• For personal touch you can also hole-punch the tops and tie a ribbon through!

▶️ Accountable Talk Talking Stems

✅ Variation #1 - One Column Talking Stem that contains 5 talking/discussion areas: Agree, Disagree, Prompt, Clarify, and Add-On. This variation comes in four colors: Yellow, Pink, Blue, and B&W. Each color bookmark includes the same content.

✅ Variation #2 - Two Column Talking Stem that contains 10 talking/discussion areas: Agree, Disagree, Prompt, Clarify, Add-On, Explain, Evidence Comment, Question, and Summarize. This variation comes in four colors: Yellow, Pink, Blue, and B&W. Each color bookmark includes the same content.

▶️ 2 Accountable Talk Desk Tags (in two different themes / Color and B&W)

The Desk Tags are Accountable Talk “mini posters” that can be printed and nicely taped to the corner of students' desk, so they can reference them all year long! They can refer to these tags for every activity, written and oral!

▶️ 1 Accountable Talk Sentence Starter Sheet

The Accountable Talk Sentence Starter Sheet includes discussion stems for 8 Accountable Talk categories:

Students can keep these sheets in their folders and have access to them where ever they go, especially at home. They can use these discussion starters in their writing and homework assignments as well!

These Discussion Note-Catcher Worksheets (Print and Digital) can increase students' interests and engagement during class discussions, debates, classroom talk, group talk, etc.! You can help maintain students' interests and focus by holding them accountable for actively listening and recording important discussion information . . . to later share during discussion. As students both discuss and record their ideas and answers, and listen and record others' ideas and answers, they can get different perspectives on a topic, organize their thinking, and feel more confident in contributing to their discussions.

▶️ 1 Peer Evaluation Accountable Talk Discussion Rubric / 3 Variations

This resource includes one Peer Evaluation Rubric in three variations - Same content. Editable versions are included, so you can modify in such a way that meets the needs of your students and instructional plans!

The Peer Evaluation Accountable Talk Discussion Rubric is meant for students to use and asses each other during Class Talk. Before beginning a discussion or debate, give each student a Peer Evaluation Rubric with another student’s name on it. (You can decide who will asses who, or you can just randomly write the names on Rubrics). Ask students to “secretly” observe and assess that student’s participation during the class discussion or debate. Students should not know who is assessing who so that evaluations of participation are fair. Throughout the discussion or debate, students will take meaningful notes of their classmates’ performances. At the end of the discussion or debate, give them 5 minutes to score the student whose name is on their Peer Evaluation Rubric. Finally, students can go up to the person they were observing and hand them the rubric. At the very end, the teacher collects the rubrics for review. This has worked so well for me! Students were always “on their toes." Students found it so exciting to be observed by classmates and also observe others.

▶️ 3 Accountable Talk Reflection Sheets (Print and Digital)

Students' reflection of classroom talk helps them identify areas and skills that need both improvement and enrichment. These reflection sheets encourage students to reflect about their experiences during collaborative talk and develop an appreciation for particular skills involved. These reflection sheets are student-friendly making it feasible for students of all levels to think and write about their overall participation in a collaborative learning environment. Reflection sheets contain images, sentence starters, and questions to really help students think about their learning. They are especially student-friendly for SPED and ELL students!
