• Vocab Match-Up: In the first task, students must draw lines to match vocabulary words from Annabel Lee to the correct definitions. Letters not intersected by the lines from the first code.
• Poe-tic Devices: In the second task, students must identify 9 poetic devices within the poem (allusion, hyperbole, anaphora, internal rhyme, alliteration, personification, assonance, repetition, end rhyme - cheat sheet is included for differentiation). Highlighted boxes in the correct answers will reveal the code.
• Criss-Cross: In the third task, students must solve a fallen phrase that when correct, displays an important quote from the poem. Shaded boxes in the quote reveal the code.
• Close Read: In the fourth task, students must answer challenging multiple choice questions about Annabel Lee that when correct, will reveal the code.
• Jig Saw Quote: In the fifth and final task, students must discover the hidden message (a quote from Annabel Lee) using clues from the first four tasks.

• Euphemistically Speaking: In the first task, students will match up common euphemisms with their literal meanings. (For example: Golden years for old age, petite for short, hugging the toilet for throwing up)
• Christina's Dream: In the second task, students will perform a close reading of Christina Georgina Rossetti's My Dream and determine figurative language devices in the poem.
• Per-Sonnet-Ification: In the third task, students will read passages from Shakespeare's sonnets and determine the objects being personified in each.
• Word Search: In the fourth task, students will complete a word search of figurative language devices.
• Encrypted Message: In the final task, students must decode an encrypted message about poetry from the codes they collected along the way.
