AP Spanish Retos Ambientales 2 videos with Viewing Guides and Ed puzzle
By Specialty Spanish
AP Spanish® teachers: save time searching for the right video for your students! This Google Doc contains links to TWO YouTube videos and a viewing guides perfect for Unit 6: Los retos ambientales. One video has an auto-grading Edpuzzle version! The accompanying comprehension questions are digital for distance learners and printable for in-person learners, and they are customizable to make them just right for your students’ needs!
Have students watch these videos to get a sense of some of the problems we face with our environment. One video talks about 5 specific problems in Mexico, their causes and their consequences. It is a short video, but the narrator speaks rather fast. This resource comes with a comprehension guide in graphic organizer format, or you may choose to use the multiple choice Edpuzzle version. I find that the Edpuzzle version is a good scaffold to aid student comprehension because the questions can be inserted right after the information has been provided! This Edpuzzle is also auto-graded to save you time and to give students instant feedback! The second video is about what would happen if all the ice in the world were to melt. It talks about the possibilities and the human and animal consequences that would occur. This video is accompanied by short answer comprehension questions.
Of course, both viewing guides come with a teacher answer key, and all questions can be edited to suit your needs!
Environmental challenges is a great theme to explore as a Global Challenge, or as part of the Science and Technology Unit. These videos could be a great source for a debate as this topic can be controversial!

AP Spanish End of Year Art Project and Gallery Walk
By Specialty Spanish
So the AP Spanish® Exam is over... now what?? The end of the year means that you can do FUN and CREATIVE things with students that keep them interested and motivated! This digital or printable art project is a great way to end the year and let students show off other talents! We also get the opportunity to do some cross-disciplinary work and collaborate with colleagues if you choose!
First students choose a global challenge to research- one that interests them!
Next, students imitate a style of art to create an original work of art that uses symbolism to demonstrate the theme of their artwork.
Finally, students write a detailed description of their thought process while planning their work as well as what elements of symbolism they used and why.
When the projects are turned in, the teacher can set them up (around the classroom or in another spot in your school). Their descriptions accompany their artwork. Included in this project are a gallery walk note-taking table as well as comment cards. Students enjoy getting feedback from their peers! And the gallery walk chart helps them engage with the work of their peers and to think more deeply.
Another great option is to collaborate with an art teacher or another Spanish class. You can also simply invite other classes to view your gallery, and administrators too! Let them fill out comment cards for your students!
How long will this take? It really depends! You may choose to let students do a lot of the research and planning in class, but you can also assign this for homework.
I find that the making of the art has to be done at home so that they have access to the supplies they need.
The writing of the description can be done in class or at home as well.
The gallery walk takes at least one class period. If you have multiple classes participating, you could allow more time if you choose.

Day of the Dead Scavenger Hunt Reading Game Día de Muertos Gallery Walk
By Specialty Spanish
Want your Spanish students to learn about Día de Muertos , but reading comprehension is getting boring in your Spanish class? Turn it into a game! This mystery-solving reading about Day of the Dead goes from dull to exciting as students work together and move around the room to solve a mystery! This is a simple “print and go” with no work for the teacher!
Students investigate with Maria, a young person from Mexico, while she tries to understand more about a former member of her town. He visits the townspeople all year, not just during Día de Muertos. Why can’t he rest in peace? While they read the parts, they are also looking for “code words”. Students record the code words on a special answer sheet that will eventually lead them to solving the mystery of how/why he died. It’s so much fun!
After, you can decide which of the 4 follow-up activities you want to do with your students. There are 4; a True or False Activity to check for basic comprehension, a graphic organizer for students to learn more about the specific items related to Day of the Dead, a “tell me in your own words” activity, and a writing follow up where students use their reading comprehension and critical thinking to invent an explanation for who this lost soul was and why he died the way he did. Answer key to the True/False is also included. Best of all? If there’s something you’d like to change for your students, you are free to edit!
The reading cards are written in Spanish for Intermediate Low. The questions are written in Spanish and answers will be in Spanish as well. The instructions and mission are written in Spanish.
**If your students are not ready for this level of reading, check out theEnglish version of this Scavenger Hunt! Buy the bundle of both Spanish and English Scavenger Hunts if you have classes at both levels!

Want your Spanish students to learn about Hispanic Heritage Month , but reading comprehension is getting boring in your Spanish class? Turn it into a game! This mystery-solving reading about famous Hispanics goes from dull to exciting as students work together and move around the room to solve a mystery! This is a simple “print and go” with no work for the teacher!
Students play the role of journalists, all trying to “scoop” each other by getting a story first! There is to be a big Lifetime Achievement Award given to someone of Hispanic heritage, and the journalists want to find out who is winning the award first! They will read about the 10 candidates. While they read the parts, they are also looking for “code words”. Students record the code words on a special answer sheet that will eventually lead them to solving the mystery of who the award winner is, and whoever figures it out first gets the scoop! It’s so much fun!
After, you can decide which of the 4 follow-up activities you want to do with your students. Spanish Reading Comprehension and Activities for Diwali
By Specialty Spanish
Looking for a variety of ready-to-use activities for Diwali? Your Spanish students will love all the activities in this Diwali resource! There are 6 different activities, already differentiated and scaffolded, so you can use this with all of your classes from Year 2 and up! Reading comprehension, listening comprehension, speaking, writing and more are all included!
The reading is written in Spanish and is purposefully divided into small paragraphs with accompanying pictures. This visual trick makes the reading seem less overwhelming to students, and makes it easy for them to know where to read to find the answers to the English comprehension questions. Words that may be unfamiliar are underlined and included in the vocab list! Need an element of fun? Read the link within this resource to learn how to turn the reading and questions into a fun group game!
You can check comprehension in other ways too! A list of 10 True/False statements in Spanish is included for you to read to students. This brings in listening comprehension while you reinforce new vocabulary and new learning. Answer keys for both the reading questions and the True/False questions are included.
Next, you may want your students to write or speak about what they learned. Use the linked bookmarks in the teacher instructions to take a quick view of the questions. Decide if you want them to write or record a presentational speaking, and then use the student version papers to print or post!
Do you want them to make comparisons? Scaffold this for students with lower proficiency by having them use the helpful vocab on the vocab sheet! Decide if you want them to write or record, and assign the questions that are already in a student friendly version!
Last but not least, help students work on their interpersonal speaking! There are 2 guided conversations that help students know how to keep their conversation going without telling them exactly what to say!
Mix and match activities based on your students’ current skill level and you can use this resource for all of your preps!

Pre AP Spanish Interpersonal Speaking about Bachata Simulated Conversations
By Specialty Spanish
Teaching Pre-AP Spanish students? Spark interest by using a topic they love-Music! These Intermediate-Mid level simulated conversations about Bachata are a great way to scaffold interpersonal speaking to help prepare students for AP Spanish. These recorded conversations provide parts of a conversation that your students will listen to, with a 20 second gap where they will respond each time. Then, they will hear the next part of the conversation.
One of the open-ended sections on the AP Spanish test is a simulated conversation, so NOW is the right time to familiarize your students with this format!
There are 2 conversations, one recorded by a male native speaker and the other by a female native speaker. In addition, the teacher instructions give ideas for how to use this activity with your Pre-AP students. A rubric and important vocabulary to pre-teacher are also included! Print or post and GO!
