These sentence diagramming bell ringers will last a full month. This resource contains four Google Slide presentations- one for each week. There is also an assessment for the end of those four weeks to test student knowledge. The daily activities should last 5-10 minutes.

My bell ringers are color-coded. Red slides should be covered on Monday, yellow on Tuesday, green on Wednesday (missing from preview), blue on Thursday, and purple on Friday.

Sentence diagramming is so helpful when teaching students parts of speech and sentence structure. The repetitiveness of diagramming for a bell ringer is extremely beneficial for students. I tried grammar workbooks for years, but my students hardly retained anything. Daily sentence diagramming made them remember their parts of speech, and was an amazing foundation for my students to have when we started forming different types of sentences. They picked up on fixing run-ons quickly as well because of their diagramming foundation.

Students use a die to decide the format, topic, and rhetorical appeal that they will use for this persuasive writing assignment. This is meant to be a fun, amusing activity for students learning about rhetorical appeals. One sheet is colored for posting online, the other is in black and white for printing.

This 4-page pre-reading handout provides students with important background information for understanding William Shakespeare's Julius Caesar. This resource includes a two-page handout on the history of the Roman Republic. The resource also included is a comprehension check and answer key so that teachers can assess whether students have understood important details from the handout.

Learning about the history of the Roman Republic will provide students with the contextual information necessary for understanding certain lines in Shakespeare's Julius Caesar. You could have students read this handout for homework before starting the play; or you could have students read the handout aloud together in class before giving them the comprehension check worksheet.

This resource should accompany The Diary of Anne Frank by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett. Upper elementary, middle school, and high school students need reading fluency practice too, but we don't always think about it at these stages. This editable resource asks students to practice a passage directly from The Diary of Anne Frank and focus on accuracy, pace, expression, and punctuation. Students are asked to practice reading the passage to an adult. I have always had my students record themselves reading the passage at the end of a week, and I grade them using the same rubric that is on this assignment.

This Google Doc helps students analyze the suspense King uses in chapter 2 of The Mist, which was originally published in Skeleton Crew. The text-based analytical questions focus on King's development of suspense based on his creation of strong characters. Students will fill in a chart for David, Billy, Steff, Mr. Norton, and Mrs. Carmody. They will record the characters' relationship to the narrator, character traits, text evidence for support, and how the character contributes to the suspense in the text. There's also two bonus questions asking about the Arrowhead Project and King's use of cliffhangers. A suggested answer key is provided!

This chapter 4 analysis activity requires students to analyze the Perilous Situation the characters find themselves in. They'll be working with a partner to analyze the diction used in the description of the mist and the tentacles that emerge from the mist. They'll also make predictions about how each of the main characters will react to the danger. A rubric is included.
