To decrypt encrypted data is a 5-step process. The 5 steps involve basic algebra skills students pick up since middle school.
This task, (especially the key,) meticulously takes students through the 5 steps. When students can decrypt data, they will become much more inventive to make even stronger encryptions and they will avoid common pitfalls.

Early Calculus scavenger hunt

A good activity once the topic of differentiating powers of x has been introduced.

Instructions

• Print off the twenty question pages and put them up around the room
• Each question is in the centre of the page and the solution is at the top of another page.
• A student begins on a given question, solves it and finds the answer on another sheet. The question on this sheet will be the next question they answer. Once they have answered all twenty, they will return to their starting question
• Depending on numbers, students can all start on different questions
• There is a student answer sheet included plus the correct sequence

Depending on ability of the group this may take longer than 45 minutes. Good algebraic manipulation will determine the length of time needed.

"The Answers Are..." is a great Non-Curricular Thinking Task your secondary math students can all access, no matter their skill level. Each task card gives a number bank with 10 integers and 5 target answers your students must create. Using each number in the bank only one time each, students work in random teams of three to create all 5 expressions by adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing. It's more challenging than you might think!

Do your students need additional support identifying money and counting currency to match a price or a purchase? Functional money skills such as counting and identifying money to make purchases are critical to successful daily living. Your students will practice matching the number value to the written value, practicing writing the written value, as well as cutting and pasting the correct currency to the item.

The students will practice writing the dollar amount as well as cut and paste the correct number of dollars to the item shown. Remedial skills, introduction to currency, as well as functional math time are great ways to incorporate these worksheets. These worksheets are in both color and black and white.

Qui suis-je? French numbers and Math Game

Do your students know how to properly make entries into a spreadsheet to keep track of their deposits and withdrawals? I have created an Excel and Google Sheets spreadsheet to make it easy for them. Each spreadsheet has 3 tabs - 1) showing them what I created, 2) a blank spreadsheets with headings, & 3) a black spreadsheet so they can follow the easy directions I have provided to create their own. What a great way for them to keep track of the money they receive, spend, and be able to balance their checking account!
