Directions:

Opinion Writing

• Students choose their favorite pie (apple or pumpkin).
• They use the matching brainstorming page to list reasons why their chosen pie is the best.
• Students color, cut, and assemble the pie craft, OR print it on colored paper.
• Using the “My Favorite Pie is...” paper and brainstorm map, they write about their favorite pie.
• Glue the craft and writing paper to construction paper for display—easy as pie!

How to Writing

• Read a book, watch a video, or explore how to make a pie.
• Students complete the sequencing page for either apple or pumpkin pie.
• They use the sequencing page and final draft paper to write the steps for making the pie.

Compare and Contrast Diagram

• At the end of the unit, allow students to compare and contrast apple and pumpkin pie with partners, small groups or as a class!
