Adaptive Books with a Halloween prepositions theme cover a variety of prepositions (in, on, around, behind, beside, above, and under. This set of adapted books includes three books!

Two books require your students to follow the directions to put icons in the correct place. Each book has eight different pictures to place appropriately in the book. As part of the preparation process, you will want to add multiple pieces of velcro to ensure students demonstrate understanding by their specific placement of the icons.

The third book require your students to complete a sentence. Each sentence is simple, such as "A bat is hiding ______ the cabinet". A picture is provided to help the students understand the sentence to choose the correct preposition.

3 Little Pigs with a twist- Part of my first story of my Bilingual Series

Tales with a twist is designed to give students a familiar feel, but with surprising elements throughout the story.

Print out the stories in either English, or Spanish or both!!!

It is not direct translation rather I focused in translating the stories in a way they feel right and are authentic.

The graphic novel, Click! Kayla Miller is great for children ages 8 - 13, as they can relate with the characters. My students enjoyed this book because it is a book about friendship and finding where they belong or where they "click" as they navigate middle school. This book does not have chapters, so comprehension questions were separated by pages. Therefore, written comprehension skills are emphasized while reading.

The comprehension questions in this product relate with the text as well as students own experiences. Vocabulary words, their meanings, and a few example sentences are presented in the packet. As the book is being read aloud, as students are reading the book or after the book has been read, students can answer the comprehension questions in this packet.

Answer key is included at the end of the product.

What is included?

This set includes a plethora of resources and it will keep you busy throughout the school year! I have included animals, holidays, counting, shapes, colors and more.

Why Adapted books?

I personally love using adapted books. I have found them to be motivating to even my most reluctant learners. They are a great resource for such a wide range of learners as well as I can easily modify my instruction for the needs of each student.

I have used them with students who are just learning to sit in their seats and follow directions. Adapted books can easily be modified for students by providing less visual options.

I have also used them with student who are reluctant learners. They may already be confident in the skills presented in the books, however benefit from a learning activity they know they will do succeed with. It is a great starting activity!

Do you have a student who is working on identifying "wh" questions? Place a post it note over picture on each page. Read, ask the "wh" question, and your student can check their answer by checking under the post it note.

Once I have my books prepared they are sturdy, easily cleaned & stored. I store mine in a crate that supports hanging folders. They are sorted by topic and easy to grab and go. We use them in stations, with substitutes, my classroom aides, and when student want to read with peers. They are often requested as well!

How are they prepared?

These books do require some prior prep work. Once they have been created however they are able to be used year after year with a variety of students. I generally print, laminate, bind and velcro them so they can be reused. The adaptive books are designed with students ability to interact with learning material. Each book has interactive icons. Students will have options of 8-10 choices for each story.

WOW! Two different options for the same book! How fun – QR Codes and Poke Cards. Both are favorite activities for the students in my classroom. Henry and Mudge The First Book poke cards are a great independent, partner or guided reading group comprehension activity. Henry and Mudge books are a just right beginning chapter book for second grade students. Students in small groups quickly make connections to Henry and his big, loveable dog, Mudge. The poke cards are self checking. After reading each chapter, students will answer each question by selecting one of three choices. Using a pencil, straw, or pipe cleaner, students will poke through the hole to choose their answer. The correct answer will have a mark above or around the hole. The poking process quickly engages the students and provides immediate feedback to them. As with the poke cards, the QR code cards are self checking. My students love using our classroom iPods or iPads to check their answers. Cards have chapter titles on them for ease of organization. Cards are labeled poke cards or QR code cards. Answer key is included and clearly labeled. Teacher Preparation: -For QR and poke cards - Print on light colored card stock for durability. -For poke cards - Using a hole punch, at each * punch a hole. -On the back of the poke card identify the correct answer by drawing a circle around the hole or marking an X above the hole. -Laminate for durability. Adapted Books with a focus on "Wh" Questions: "What" and "Who" is a set of four books designed to help children learn and practice their comprehension skills. The set includes two books with a focus on "what" questions and two books with a focus on "who" questions.

Extend student practice through print and go worksheets, task cards, and a sorting activity.

Adaptive books are a valuable tool to use with students. While the books do require some prep work such as printing, laminating, cutting and velcro; they can be used again and again! What:

Book 1: What do you wear? is a fun and interactive way for children to learn about appropriate clothing choices for different weather conditions. It presents various scenarios and asks children to choose the correct clothing to wear for each situation. For example, "It is a sunny summer day and you want to go swimming". What will you wear? Clothing for all seasons is included.

Book 2: What are they doing? is designed to help children practice predicting and understanding cause and effect. It presents various situations and asks children to determine what the characters will do in each scenario. Children can reinforce their understanding by stating what they would do in each situation. "I will... Situations include: Cooking, painting, playing ball, crying, cleaning, eating, reading and sleeping.

What/Who:

Book 3 & 4: This book is available as either Who lives here or What animal lives here. They are a fun and engaging way for children to learn about different animals and their habitats. It presents different locations and asks children to choose the animal that lives in each place. Support is provided with a hint for each animal to help children who may not have prior knowledge of the animal's habitat or characteristics.

Example: Book 3 - Who lives inside a home? Book 4 - What animal lives inside a home? Hint: I am soft, cuddly and I meow. Animals include: starfish, bunny, skunk, penguin, fish, bear, whale and cat.

Book 5: So many jobs! Who will do them? is designed to help children learn about different occupations and the roles they play in society. It presents various jobs, including traditional careers such as teacher and firefighter, as well as more unusual careers such as rockstar. This book encourages children to think about what they might want to do when they grow up. Jobs include: teacher, farmer, ball player, firefighter, police, fisherman, cook & rockstar!

Book 6: Who will do it? This book presents a problem (I need or I like something), and a solution (who I can get this from). For example, I like cookies. Who will bake them? or I need groceries. Who will I pay?

Print and Go:

Continue practicing student understanding of "what" and "who" questions through 16 additional practice pages.

• 2 pages of sorting pictures into "who" and "what columns.
• 4 pages of identify and color pages.
• 10 pages of matching a picture to the "who" or "what" question. These will require a student to cut and paste.

Task Cards: All cards are colorful and made to be laminated and reused. I store mine in small containers (pictures in preview)

• Clip cards "what": Students will identify the correct picture from a choice of 4. Clip with a paperclip or laundry clip or laminate and circle with a dry erase marker.
• Clip cards "who": Students will identify the correct picture from a choice of 4. Clip with a paperclip or laundry clip or laminate and circle with a dry erase marker.
• What Color: Identify object and then identify the correct color.
• Where do they work - The base card contains a place of work (hospital, bakery etc.) Students will select the correct person who works there.
• Who and what questions - Students select the correct picture to answer the question.

A classical story with a twist!

~ Winter of the Ice Wizard literature unit can be used with a guided reading group or as a whole class novel study. ~ Questions use higher level thinking skills. Vocabulary sheet is included.
