2nd Grade Reading Strategies Graphic Organizers

The Chapter Book Response Sheets can be used with any chapter book. This product comes with 14 different response sheets-students can complete a response sheet after each chapter or after several chapters. These response sheets are ideal for Literature Circles, Independent Read, Homework, etc. Each response sheet focuses on different concepts that are aligned with Common Core. Below are suggestions for the use of the Chapter Book Response Sheets:

Literature Circles- Students can use the response sheet after each chapter or every couple of chapters. The concepts covered can be used as discussion pieces during Literature Circle.

Independent Read- Students can use these response sheets to keep their reading skills and memory fresh while reading a chapter book. They can keep their response sheets in order and have a study guide to look back on at the end of the book.

Homework- Students can be assigned one or more chapters, and do a response sheet for homework.

Three Compare and Contrast Review sheets for elementary students. Includes stories and graphs for comprehension. Students read the short essays then chart comparisons and contrasts on graphs. Uses relationship words for comparisons and contrasts. Great for in-class practice or assessment, as well as homework assignments.

This packet is a literature response to Those Shoes. It can be used as a literature response for a book club or as a whole class reading comprehension packet. There are prompts on when to answer each response page in the upper right corner in blue.

These differentiated graphic organizers align with the skill “Retell” from HMH. I created them with the language proficiency levels of ENL students in mind. They can support beginner/entering level to advanced/commanding ELLs! With 5 versions to choose from, your students will be able to retell in no time! 

All versions include the “I can” statement, visual examples and the HMH anchor chart for retell. The first page includes boxes for students to illustrate the events in the story, for students who are not writing yet. If students struggle to draw on their own, you can provide them with pictures of the BME of the story to cut and glue into the boxes. The second page includes boxes for students to draw along with primary lines and sentence starters. The next two pages include primary lines with varied support of sentence starters and sequence words. For more advanced students, the last two pages include single spaced lines with varied support of sentence starters and sequence words. All of the supports are combined into one paper for easy access when modifying material. This can be utilized with HMH Grades 1, 2 and 3 for English Language Learners, SWD or students who need additional support.
