French Science of Reading STARTER KIT Bundle-Bundle La conscience phonémique

By La trousse de Madame

French Science of Reading STARTER KIT Activity Bundle is a combination of Science of Reading aligned activities that I have created, designed, and classroom tested to bring you the best of what's in store. Do you get tired of looking for French Immersion resources only to find that there is too much or not enough?

I have bundled 7 fantastic resources that can help set you up for group work, paper packets, and centre activities so you can quickly get your students started. And the best part? You can start any time in the school year!

What's in the Bundle?

1. Decodable Sentence Strips that are ideal for hands-on learning. Students use the resource in clear folders and write out the phonemes, decode, and write out the sentences all on their own

2. French Phoneme Activity pads are sheets to print out, insert into clear pockets (or laminate) and students form blended sounds using CV sounds available on the side. Students start with /a/ and blend each consonant by saying the sound, tapping the sound, mapping the sound, and writing the sound. Excellent early practice for those just getting started with the Science of Reading

3. French Phonics Alphabet activity sheets are designed to get that each sound of the alphabet familiarized and into the daily lexicon of each student. This can be used as a whole group instruction activity prior to being given out. The students could each get a booklet for doing each sound as the year progresses, for morning work packets, or this could be used for extension activities for early finishers.

4. Decodable Texts are the first set of texts that focus on early sound patterns for those setting out to learn the phonemes in French. A great way to start out for K-2 Immersion students that are just getting used to French sounds. These texts include a target sound, a few heart words, a small text, and comprehension questions.

5. French Phonics Screener is my most downloaded item in my store and this full version will take you from Kindergarten all the way to the Grade 2 level in French Immersion as it includes complex sounds, complex vowels, and all the blended sounds as well. A comprehensive screening tool that take a few minutes per students so you know right at the beginning of the year, where you need to focus your lesson planning!

6. Pyramid Reading Cards 1 are a set of early reading sounds that will get your students excited and motivated to embark on the world of reading. Each card has one repeating sentence that students get to practice from top to bottom. My students love to do these cards in pairs as they sit elbow to elbow, knee to knee to read to a buddy.

7. Large Phonics Flash Cards are a MUST in the Science of Reading classroom. Once your students are able to distinguish sounds, they are asking to put the grapheme to the phoneme! So here you go. Large print. Easy font. Easy print. The letters are positioned for easy stacking so you can hang on a ring and flip pages quickly. Students LOVE to be the Mini-prof when it's their turn to try to stump their classmates. Once you have the single sounds down, it's time to blend. Printing on different coloured paper and laminated will help cards to last year after year!

I would love to know how you are using this product in your classroom. Please feel free to contact me directly if you have anything to say about this resource. I love helping teachers as much as I can. A product review also is a great way of letting me know, and leaving a review earns you extra credit for more amazing TeachShare products!

Who can use this resource:

French Immersion teachers in the Kindergarten to Grade Three classroom and those teaching beginner French students. Can be used at the Grade 4-6 level with Core French students learning to segment and blend complex sounds.

What grade level:

I personally use these activities with 1st and 2nd Grade students in French Immersion. I feel confident that students from K-3 will find these most useful and teachers can come back to them year after year with their students. These charts follow the sequence of letter introduction of the UFLI scope and sequence in a sequential, cumulative way to support ANY curriculum. Previously introduced letters/sounds stay on the charts for 8 consecutive lessons before dropping off. New letter/sounds are added after you explicitly teach them using your curriculum. Students keep their eyes on the letter/sounds as long as you need them to while building mastery.

Perfect for busy teachers, these easy prep charts can be used immediately in every lesson to build those automatic readers you went into teaching for. The versatility in using them in whole group with a projector, in small group as a warm up to the day's lesson, in centers reading to someone, homework, or in reading to self, makes these charts a powerful tool in your toolbox.

Take a peek at my preview for a better idea at what's included. My Scavenger Hunt series couples perfectly with this resource to provide another independent center with the same content to create a comprehensive double whammy of practice. Individually, you can choose from Uppercase/lowercase matching, Initial Sound, or the CVC, Digraphs, and VCe bundle.

Contents of the Ready Read Alphabet Charts

  • Step by Step Teacher Directions
  • 122 Fluency Charts following 34 lessons
  • Scope and Sequence Aligned to UFLI (not endorsed by)
  • Differentiation Ideas
  • Table of Contents with Skill and page number
  • A letter/sound chart for each lesson
  • K-1 CCSS Aligned to Uppercase/Lowercase, short vowels, blends, VC and CVC words
  • 1 chart per lesson with a serif font-the font found in library books
  • BONUS b/d chart for differentiated, targeted instruction
  • A Blank chart for differentiated, targeted instruction

Perfect For:

  • Bridging the gap between the fast moving curriculum pace for Kindergarten and 1st graders and any other student needing rapid naming practice.
  • Quick, easy to use, warm up, practice chart prior to the day's lesson
  • Fluency practice with letter sounds, vowel sounds in isolation as well as in words.
  • Mini Assessment or Progress Monitoring of sounds mastered

Common Core Alignment:

✏️CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.K.1a : I can follow words from left to right, top to bottom

✏️CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.K.2d: I can isolate and pronounce the initial, medial vowel and final sounds in 3 phoneme CVC words.

✏️CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.K.3a I can demonstrate basic knowledge of one-to-one letter sound correspondences by producing the primary sound or many of the most frequent sounds for each consonant.

✏️CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.K.3b I can associate the short sounds with the common spellings for the five major vowels.

✏️CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.1.3b I can decode regularly spelled one-syllable words.

How it works:

1. Before Starting:

Ensure students have already been taught the corresponding lesson explicitly. Ready Reads should follow the previously taught content in accordance with the Science of Reading principles, which emphasize systematic and cumulative instruction.

2. Using Ready Read Charts:

Whole Class: Display the chart on a projector or screen for the entire class to read together.

Small Group: Using printed copies, assign students a row to read. Students whisper read and follow along while another student reads orally. OR Side by side students work in pairs to read their line to each other while the teacher listens to each student in turn read.

Partner Practice: Students can work in pairs to read and support each other, holding each other accountable.

Individual Reading: Students can whisper read the charts on their own, practicing graphemes, phonemes, or word blending.

3. Adapting Formats:

Use an “I read, We read, You read” model. Begin by modeling the reading, follow with group reading, and finally allow students to read independently. All student eyes should always be on the text.

4. For Pre-Readers and Early Readers:

Guide them through the left-to-right reading progression to help develop fluency with the letters and sounds they’ve already learned. This helps in recognizing graphemes and phonemes quickly, setting the stage for fluent reading.

5. Grapheme and Phoneme Practice:

For Graphemes: Students say the name of each grapheme (e.g., “a”).

For Phonemes: Students say the sound each grapheme makes (e.g., /a/).

For Word Blending: Students blend the sounds to say the entire word.

6. Using the Different Versions:

Letter/Sound Charts: In each corresponding lesson, the first chart is the grapheme/phoneme chart. These charts spiral 8 different grapheme/phonemes from previous lessons, so students will continually practice them to mastery. Letter/Sound charts include 1 chart of all Uppercase letters, 1 chart of all lowercase letters, 1 chart with Mixed case letters and 1 chart with a serif font. It’s important to use both fonts, as serif fonts (especially letters like “a” and “g”) can look different to students in books, and students need to recognize these variations instantly.

Word Charts: Students blend VC and CVC words with letters previously taught.

Blank Chart: Use the blank Ready Read chart to customize content with specific letters or words that meet your students' needs.

Ready Reads are flexible, purposeful, and easy to integrate into your literacy instruction!

You will love it because:

You will love that it is done for you. No more scrambling to provide daily practice that curriculum companies miss. You will love the versatility of being able to use them in whole group, small group, in Tier 1, in intervention, as homework, with a para, in partners or in read to self. Knowing that these are aligned to a trusted phonics curriculum in a sequence that makes sense puts teachers' minds at ease. Ready Reads fluency charts come in multiple versions so words or letters cannot be memorized for repeated use. They are substitute friendly and ready to go.

What's Included in the Bundle?

Set of 18 word wall/vocabulary cards covering all of the fruits included in these resources. Cards are in full color and come with a write and wipe version to laminate and include in a writing center. Great for introducing the fruits before using the other resources in this bundle.

-Vegetables Word Wall Cards

Set of 22 word wall/vocabulary cards covering all of the vegetables included in these resources. Cards are in full color and come with a write and wipe version to laminate and include in writing centers. Great for introducing the vegetables before using the other resources in this bundle.

-Fruit & Veggie Bingo

This complete bingo set comes with bingo caller cards, card markers in two different designs, and 30 unique full-page bingo cards. Perfect for learning food groups, introducing new foods, practicing fruit and veggie vocab, or for speech therapy, young learners and ESL students! These are ready to cut apart and go, or laminate and use again and again.

-Fruit & Veggie Bingo Jr for Young Learners

This complete bingo set comes with bingo caller cards, card markers in two different designs, and 30 unique full-page bingo cards. This game is set up just like the regular bingo set except that the spaces are larger and there are fewer spaces on the bingo card so that younger students can follow along with the game. The two games work seamlessly together since they use the same bingo caller cards, so they are great for mixed age classrooms, after school care, homeschools, and more.

-Fruit and Vegetable Montessori Style 3-Part Cards

Each fruit and vegetable 3-part card comes with a control card that includes both the picture and name of the fruit/vegetable plus a two-part card, one with the picture and the other with the name, so that students can match them. These are a fun way to add manipulatives into your classroom or home!

These are ready to print, laminate and go! They come in both full color and black and white so that you can use the black and white version to include a coloring/fine motor component. Laminate a set of the color cards for classroom use, then give students a set of black and white cards to color, personalize, and take home for additional practice!

-Fruit & Vegetable Word & Letter Puzzles

Match the fruit or veggie to the word and letter in these puzzles! There are two styles of puzzles: one is a two piece puzzle with the picture of the produce one one side and the word for it on the other. The other style is a three piece puzzle with one piece showing the word, one piece showing the picture, and the other piece showing the beginning letter of the produce. There are a total of 82 puzzles featuring 18 fruits and 22 vegetables.

These are low prep and need to be laminated, but are full color and ready for literacy centers, early finishers, preschool centers and more. They are self-checking with different cuts in the middle that line up, but when I use them I draw a different shape on the back of each puzzle before laminating so that when they're matched, they can be flipped over to check for a complete shape.

-Fruit & Vegetable Memory Game w/ 3 versions

The classic game of memory with a fruit and veggie twist! 3 different versions provide several ways to play the game: one set of cards has pictures and words, one has just pictures, and one has just words. Mix and match to increase the difficulty of the game. For example, mix the picture only cards with the word only cards to have students match the word to the picture! Print cards on cardstock or laminate for durability.

-Fruit & Vegetable Themed Worksheets

Supplemental worksheets for literacy centers, math centers, early finishers, or just to use alongside a unit on nutrition.

Worksheets included in this set:

-6 Match the Fruit/Vegetable Worksheets - students cut and paste picture of fruit or vegetables onto the word for each

-6 black and white copies of the Match the Fruit/Vegetable Worksheets for easy printing and/or to use as a coloring worksheet

-4 Fruit/Veggie Mix-up Worksheets - students count the fruits or vegetables in the box, write the number, and then color them according to the instructions.

-2 Find the Fruit/Vegetable Worksheets - students use a dabber or marker to color the circles that contain fruit/vegetables

-5 Sort the Produce Worksheets - students cut, sort and paste the fruits and vegetables into categories. 3 worksheets are sorting by fruit or vegetable and 2 worksheets are sorting by color
