Solfege | Re Solfege Syllable Practice Lesson Using William's Winter Nap

Use the lullaby written for this book to have your students practice singing and identifying the re solfege syllable. Add instruments to accompany this lullaby while they practice singing the re syllable and take turns playing the triangles and hand chimes which would go well with accompanying this song. Decode for the re syllable after you are done singing the song. Adaptable for grades PreK-2nd grade.

Ostinato Lesson Using Goodnight Owl Book

Teach the ostinato concept using the musical lullaby extension to this well loved book. I wrote a simple lullaby the children can sing at every page turn. As a follow up activity have the students match the animal sounds with the correct animal. Worksheets can be either copied or assigned digitally through the Easel function. Good for students from PreK-2nd grade.

Ostinato and Solfege Lesson Using Swap! Book
By Creating Musical Literature
This is a solfege and ostinato lesson using this wonderful book. Use the song as either a song or chant, depending on the age group. You can accompany yourself or sing acapella to practice singing la, so mi, re and do syllables in tune. Add Orff instruments for the ostinato and rhythm sticks to accompany the song. Use the worksheet (paper or in Easel) to trace the swapping journey with your older students. Adaptable for grades PreK-2nd grade.

Ten Timid Ghosts Extension Lesson-Solfege

Need to add solfege practice to your Halloween books? Use this Halloween book to practice steady beat and counting, while adding in this lesson to get additional practice singing so and mi solfege syllables! As an option, add in egg shakers while singing for instrument use and to scare those ghosts away! Use with PreK-2nd grade students, and then practice decoding for so and mi with the older grades.

Wakey, Wakey, Elephant!: A Book Based Lesson for Teaching So and Mi

Holiday Rhythm Discovery (NAME THAT TUNE!)

In "Holiday Rhythm Discovery" students will see a rhythm appear on the screen and will be given the opportunity to clap back (or perform back, say back, sing back, however you wish!) the rhythm being displayed. Then, they will see a multiple choice listing of songs -- which song matches the rhythm?
Advance the slide and the correct answer will turn GREEN

Social Emotional Learning Lesson Using It Will Be Ok Book

Use this book to discuss anxiety and what your students can do to manage it when they experience it. Then sing the song and have the students literally rise up and then wave to each other when you are singing those lines to bring the class together as a community. Repeat as many times as necessary. Tanabata Star Festival Speech Piece and Triplet Lesson

Start the year off right with this wonderful lesson about the Japanese holiday, Tanabata! Using the book The Star Festival by Mona Ritchie Hadley, introduce your students to this wonderful holiday while discussing wishes and dreams for the upcoming year. Read the poem and then learn the speech piece. Divide into two groups while chanting and playing the two individual rhythm parts on rhythm instruments of your choice. Great for introducing and/or reviewing triplets. Use for late 2nd-4th grade as an end of year or beginning of the year setting of wishes.
