Once they have come up with their sentences, they can include pictures that they print and cut out, draw pictures freehand, or find pictures in a magazine that they can add to each page of the 2nd grade sight word booklet that matches each sentence they come up with. This gives students the opportunity to connect what they are learning about in the classroom with their own personal interests. The book, Best Friends by Shannon Hale and Leuyen Pham is great for children ages 7 - 13 years old, as they can relate with Shannon, the friends she makes along the way, the friendships she struggles to maintain, the lack of self confidence she has and she becomes more confident along the way, learning that it is okay not to be friends with everyone, the importance of friendship and not following the crowd or what your friends want you to do, doing things that you want to do - being a leader instead of a follower, and how to handle stressful situations, anxiety, conflict, and bullying. Students will follow Shannon along as she figures out where to fit in while in 6th grade and gets ready for junior high school. The comprehension questions in this product relate with the text as well as students own experiences. Vocabulary words, their meanings, and example sentences are presented in the packet. Students can also write vocabulary words in sentences. As the book is being read aloud, as students are reading the book or after the book has been read, students can answer the comprehension questions in this packet. In this product, Reading Street - Scene 2 is read and reviewed. In this product, students will read the text, Scene 2. Students will review/learn what a play is, will see the set up of a play that includes the title, author, characters, stage directions, and how the characters lines, including the narrator's lines are set up. As students read the text, Scene 2, they will answer comprehension questions using this product. They can complete these questions individually, in a small group, or with support. There are several pages of comprehension questions in this packet that differ from the questions asked in the teacher edition. The questions from the text are adapted in this packet to meet each of your student's needs. At the end of the packet, students will answer comprehension questions about the authors - Don Abramson and Robert Kausal. At the end of the packet is a template and the steps necessary for your students to write a play as well.

- 3 Friendship Puzzles: Students work with a friend to color the puzzle pieces. Then they work with their friend to build the puzzle by gluing the pieces to the grid page.
- 3 My Friends Bingo: In each box is a description. After you read the description, students find a friend who fits the description and then they let them write their name in the box on the line. Have students complete all the boxes like a blackout in Bingo or just 3 in a row.
- 3 Student Surveys:
- Option 1: Choose 1 out of the 3 surveys for students to complete.
- Option 2: Let students choose 1 out of the 3 surveys to complete. - Option 3: Students can fill out all 3 of the surveys. - My Class Friends Book: Students will interview a friend with the interview page. Collect and turn into a class book using either the color or black and white cover page. (color and black & white options included for the cover page!)
- My Backpack: Students write their names on the line and decorate their backpacks with pictures of all their favorite things to represent them. Have students share their backpacks in small groups or with a partner.
- 3 Crowns & Extenders: Print on cardstock and allow your students to color the crown and extender pieces. Glue the extender pieces (or sentence strips if you have them) on the crown and wrap them around students' heads. Staple to keep in place. (color and black & white options included!)
- Friendship Bracelets:
Print and cut the color or black and white friendship bracelets. Students can write the name of the friend they interviewed on the line and color. Wrap around students' wrists and glue in place. They can wear them home to share with parents. (color and black & white options included!) - Bus Craft & Writing: Students color and cut out the school bus. Then they respond to the writing prompt on the following page and cut out the response. Glue both to a separate page and use for a hallway display if desired.
