By Science and STEAM Team

This versatile resource is good for brightening someone's day on many occasions; Mother's Day and it is perfect for an end of the year "thank you!" Is there a special in your school you want to thank? Personally, I have the students brainstorm for all of the people that work for the school. Everyone takes one person and we brighten their day! We thank bus drivers, cafeteria workers, custodians, support staff, the principal, etc.

Your students will have lots of fun with this STEM challenge. First, they will read about six types of flowers. They will learn the characteristics of each flower, along with the meaning and what they symbolize. This is the perfect opportunity to talk about the job of the flower as well as various character traits. After reading, students will choose one flower to make given a set of guidelines. One of these guidelines is that the stem of the flower must be able to hold a letter or poem. Valentine's Day Heart Health Nonfiction Text and STEM Activities

By Science and STEAM Team

This resource is a non-fiction science text about heart health. There are a variety of activities that are perfect for Valentine's Day week.

The text is an independent read for upper elementary grades but would make a great read-aloud for the kindergarten and first grade. There is a YouTube video suggested. It is paired with a science activity and an experiment. There are follow-up graphic organizers on several different levels for independent work after the reading. There are directions and recording sheets for the experiment and activities.

The STEAM activity challenges the students to make a heart-shaped tower with given materials.
