Executive Functioning Checklist Students 3rd-5th PLUS Goals & Interventions

By The Responsive Educator

Executive Functioning Skills Checklist for 3rd-5th: A Comprehensive Tool for Special Education Professionals

This checklist is crafted to help special education professionals and behavior specialists assess and support elementary students in 3rd-5th grades across 12 essential executive functioning areas. With age-appropriate subskills, interventions, and sample goals for IEP, FBA, and BIP plans, this checklist is your go-to tool for helping students develop the skills they need to succeed academically and socially. From managing materials to handling emotional regulation and staying focused, this checklist equips educators with a clear pathway for addressing executive function deficits.

What Problem Does This Solve?
In 3rd-5th grades, executive functioning skills become increasingly critical as students face more complex assignments, shifting social dynamics, and growing responsibilities. Students with deficits in these areas may struggle with organization, impulse control, persistence, or following multi-step instructions. This checklist provides a structured method for identifying and addressing these needs, offering targeted interventions to build skills that are essential for learning and social interaction.

Who This Helps
Designed for teachers, specialists, and support staff working with 3rd-5th graders, this checklist is an invaluable tool for educators looking to support students who may have challenges in one or more executive functioning areas. Whether you are developing IEP goals, conducting an FBA, or creating a BIP, this checklist provides insight into students’ current skills and highlights areas that may need more focused support.

Time-Saving Solution
With this checklist, educators receive structured interventions and measurable sample goals tailored for elementary students. By providing pre-developed goals and interventions, this tool saves valuable time, allowing educators to focus on what matters most: supporting student growth. The clear, organized structure of the checklist allows teachers to efficiently assess each student’s needs, implement interventions, and track progress over time.

What’s Included?

  • 12 Executive Functioning Areas: Comprehensive coverage of planning, organization, emotional regulation, and more.

  • Age-Appropriate Subskills: Specific subskills tailored to 3rd-5th grade developmental levels, making assessment targeted and relevant.

  • Targeted Interventions: Developmentally appropriate interventions that educators can implement or adapt as needed.

  • Measurable Goals: Sample goals designed for IEP, FBA, and BIP plans to support individualized student needs.

This comprehensive bundle encompasses the progressive learning journey through the fourth, fifth, and sixth sets of 100 Fry sight words, providing a structured approach to sight word mastery.

Key Features
Each checklist in this bundle maintains a meticulous design featuring 9 columns per page, facilitating thorough progress tracking and assessment across multiple trials. Available in both full-color and black-and-white versions, these checklists are adaptable to diverse printing needs and various classroom settings.

Focused Goal Setting
Empower your teaching objectives by establishing precise IEP goals aligned with each set of 100 Fry sight words. These checklists aid in creating targeted and measurable learning objectives for enhanced sight word recognition.

Complementary Practice Tools
Accompanying these checklists are dedicated flashcards tailored to each set of 100 Fry sight words. These supplementary resources offer essential reinforcement and support for consistent and effective practice sessions.

Why This Bundle Matters
Combining the fourth, fifth, and sixth sets of 100 Fry sight words, this bundle further advances students' reading fluency, strengthens language proficiency, and fosters overall reading development. It serves as an invaluable resource for educators dedicated to guiding students toward sight word mastery and improved literacy skills.

Advantages of Fry Words over Dolch Words The Fry Sight Words list is organized into 10 groups of 100 words each, covering the most frequently used words in writing. Starting with the initial 300 words in early education significantly boosts reading and comprehension skills. While Fry words aren't strictly tied to specific grades, they're usually introduced in sets of 100 words to support gradual sight word recognition. Here's a general guide for introducing these sets:

  • First 100 Fry Words: Typically introduced in kindergarten and first grade.
  • Second 100 Fry Words: Taught in first or second grade, reinforcing foundational words.
  • Third 100 Fry Words: Added in second or third grade, including more complex words.
  • Fourth 100 Fry Words: Introduced in third or fourth grade, advancing vocabulary.
  • Fifth 100 Fry Words: Presented in fourth or fifth grade, offering more challenging words.

The 6th to 10th sets of 100 Fry words are usually introduced later, depending on the student's mastered words.

Do want digital data files that can be easily accessed, shared, and analyzed?

Third Grade Sight Word Progress Monitoring & MTSS Data Tracking - Google Sheets™

By Tech for Teaching

THIRD GRADE HIGH-FREQUENCY WORDS

HIGH-FREQUENCY WORD PROGRESS MONITORING, DATA TRACKING, & TARGETED INTERVENTION IN ONE!

Do you need a teacher and student-friendly sight word tracking and assessment system to progress monitor your second and third grade or at-risk students’ high-frequency word recall?

Look no further than this digital assessment tool in Google Sheets™!

Streamline your special education classroom with an easy and efficient way to analyze student sight word data and monitor progress on individualized education program (IEP) goals.

It is important for students to instantly recognize these words as they progress through kindergarten and beyond. Even if you are not explicitly teaching high-frequency words in isolation, an improvement in the students’ ability to orthographically map these words should be evident throughout the school year.

Progress monitoring, data tracking, and targeted intervention in one!

How they work:

  • Make a digital copy of the Google Sheet™ for each student!
  • Enter the student's name, initial score, and goal to generate a graph with a baseline.
  • Check the missed words on the assessor probe to automatically calculate words read correctly.
  • Missed words copy to the error box on each probe and to the individual student data sheet.
  • The first 10 missed words automatically generate one printable sheet of practice cards for targeted intervention.

Please see directions included in the preview for a full explanation of the process.

What is included in the zip file:

  • A PDF with force copy links to the Google Sheet™ Assessor Probes, Data Tracking, and Graph as well as a force copy link to the Google Slides™ version of the twenty student probes.
  • A PowerPoint and PDF (printable) version of the student probes.

Sample Goals:

The student will demonstrate an improvement in their ability to recall the most common regular and irregularly spelled words as measured by a curriculum-based measurement in high-frequency word recall from a baseline score of 23% correct to a goal score of 95% correct by June 6, 2022.
