Back to School Morning Meeting Slides Just Like Me Activity

By Professional Development and Teacher Prep

Are you looking for an engaging and meaningful way to kick off the school year with your students? The Just Like Me Back-to-School Morning Meeting Slides offer the perfect blend of fun and connection-building to help students start their day on a positive note. This activity fosters social and academic growth by allowing students to find common ground with their peers in a relaxed, interactive setting.

How the Just Like Me Activity Works: In this morning meeting activity, you display a slide with a question like, “Who has brown eyes like me?” Students who share that trait will stand up, look around, and see who else in the room is “just like them.” This simple yet powerful activity helps students build connections based on shared traits and experiences, promoting inclusion and a sense of belonging from the very first day.

Multiple Uses for the Just Like Me Activity:

  • Morning Meeting Routine: Incorporate this activity into your daily or weekly morning meetings to create a consistent opportunity for students to connect and learn more about each other.
  • Back-to-School Icebreaker: Use Just Like Me as a fun and interactive icebreaker activity to help students get to know one another at the start of the school year.
  • Ongoing Community Building: The activity can be revisited throughout the year to continue fostering relationships, especially when new students join the class or during times of transition.

Editable and Diverse Content: The Just Like Me Game includes over 20 editable slides featuring diverse and inclusive questions designed to engage all students. You can easily modify the questions to suit your classroom or add more slides if you want to extend the activity over multiple days. This flexibility allows you to tailor the activity to fit your students' unique interests and backgrounds, making the experience even more impactful.
Why It Works: The Just Like Me Activity is more than just a fun game—it creates an opportunity for students to identify shared experiences and build empathy. By discovering how much they have in common with their classmates, students develop stronger relationships, which leads to a more cohesive and supportive classroom environment. This sense of connection translates into greater participation and cooperation, setting the stage for a successful school year.
Benefits of Morning Meetings: As noted by the Responsive Classroom and Centervention, morning meetings are a powerful tool for setting the tone in your classroom. They help students transition from home to school, create a sense of community, and improve both social and academic outcomes. Morning meetings give students a chance to feel heard and seen, allowing them to feel more comfortable engaging with their peers and with the day’s learning activities.

What’s Included:

  • 20+ Editable Slides: You can customize the questions to match your classroom’s diversity and extend the activity throughout the school year.
  • Diverse and Inclusive Prompts: The questions are designed to reflect a wide range of traits, preferences, and experiences, ensuring that every student has a chance to participate and feel connected.
  • Flexible Format: The slides can be used digitally on a smartboard or printed out, allowing for a range of presentation styles to suit your classroom setup.

Sample Questions:

  • "Who has brown eyes like me?"
  • "Who loves pizza like me?"
  • "Who enjoys playing outside like me?"

Fostering Connection and Conversation: The Just Like Me activity not only helps students find commonalities but also sparks meaningful conversations. After each question, consider taking a moment to ask follow-up questions that encourage students to share more about themselves. This deepens the discussions and allows for richer classroom interactions, promoting a stronger classroom community over time.
Get your classroom off to a great start with the Just Like Me Morning Meeting Slides, and watch your students grow both socially and academically!

Gaming Badges Incentive Program.

By Art Shack by JB

This creative Art Room Gaming Badges Activity was designed to be printed and displayed as examples while you teach. Use this Google Slide file to display these beautiful images one-by-one on a large screen. *NOTE: this is a yearly event; it will take most of a full school year for any student to complete all 30 gaming badges…and that’s a good thing! *Students may try for any badge, in any order, however, students will want to start working on gaining easy gaming badges first, before trying to get the harder ones done. *Once students accomplish the criteria for a certain badge, either the teacher or the student may take colored pencils (only) to color the accomplished badge, so it looks similar to the completed version. *Move on to completing another great gaming badge. Good Luck! I hope you and your kiddos love this! Enjoy.

August Morning Meeting Work Slides

By Professional Development and Teacher Prep

Do your students need August Morning Meeting ideas for August? Using different August Morning Meeting Questions can lead to tremendous growth academically and socially. The August Morning Slides can be utilized along with your greeting and other activities.  The August Morning Meeting questions should be used during the month of August or September with your students but could be used during other months too.

There are many beginning-of-the-year questions to create strong connections between you and your students. All of the questions are on Google Slides that can be used every morning during your Morning Meeting routine. All you have to do is bring up the following Google Slide each morning for that day. There are 20 EDITABLE and DIVERSE slides just for the month of August! If you use my Morning Meeting Question of The Day (180 slides), you can use one question from that and one seasonal or monthly question each day. You would just ask two questions a day instead of one! =)

Students will create connections and develop deep discussions with the questions.  Therefore, the skills they are learning during Morning Meeting will lead to connections within their reading texts. Students who practice those skills outside of reading will most likely utilize those same skills while reading.

Additionally, the August Question of The Day will create deep relationships between you and your students! If you have my other Morning Meeting Slides then you understand how powerful these questions can be!

This is also an excellent resource to use with your remote learners or to assign to your students’ laptops. You could assign one or more slides to their learning management system for morning meetings or writing or reading activities.

“Morning Meeting is an engaging way to start each day, build a strong sense of community, and set children up for success socially and academically.” -Responsive Classroom

“Morning meetings are an excellent way to help students transition from home to school and help them get ready to learn. In addition, these meetings can help you connect with your students, help students build relationships with each other, and promote an overall sense of community in the classroom.” -Centervention

Gaming Badges: Google Drive Folder included w/ Google Slides & .PDF file.

Enjoy.
