Present Tense Verbs + Community Helpers - Speech Therapy - No Prep - Task Cards
By The SLP Curriculum
This resource serves as a start-to-finish way to teach speech language therapy students or English language learners the correct form of present tense verbs. The use of community helpers naturally elicits present tense verbs, while also providing opportunity for vocabulary development. Start by producing short sentences with community helper flashcards, then advance skills by using fill-in-the-blank sentence worksheets, sentence writing worksheets, and reading comprehension worksheets.
Included in this resource:
Task Cards/Flash Cards can be used to drill correct use of present tense verbs in sentences. They can also be used as memory games or paired with motivating board games. Singular and plural subjects are pictured in both color and black-and-white. Task cards include both picture-only and picture-and-word formats to adapt to your lesson. Community helpers include:
Sentence Frames for all sentence structures including present tense verbs.
NO PREP Reading comprehension passages are written to naturally elicit use of present tense verbs in answers. Words-only and icon-supported reading passages are included for a variety of reading levels.
NO PREP Fill-in-the-blank writing worksheets provide writing opportunities for singular, plural, and mixed subjects with support of a word bank.
NO PREP Independent writing worksheets promote correct use of present tense verbs when writing complete sentences.

Sentence diagramming is so helpful when teaching students parts of speech and sentence structure. The repetitiveness of diagramming for a bell ringer is extremely beneficial for students. I tried grammar workbooks for years, but my students hardly retained anything. Daily sentence diagramming made them remember their parts of speech, and was an amazing foundation for my students to have when we started forming different types of sentences. They picked up on fixing run-ons quickly as well because of their diagramming foundation. My students even had a strong foundation for learning verbals!
