Feeling Included and Excluded Social Stories

By Sign with me TOD

This product includes 2 social stories - one that focuses on including others and one that focuses on excluding others. Therefore, students will see the difference between including their friends, family, cousins, etc. and excluding them, and how that feels.

Students will learn about the following: included and excluded and what these words mean, the tenses they are used in, an example of each in a sentence, the vocabulary word and its means - jumping to conclusions, because that can easily happen when someone may feel excluded from something, how you may feel when you are included or excluded, and what to do when you feel excluded to feel better.

The social stories include comprehension questions that relate with the feeling included and feeling excluded social stories. Some of the questions require students to put their feet in the shoes of the characters when they feel included or excluded by a friend, cousin, or family member.

Glimmers Bulletin Board, Activities & powerpoint to Help kids find their joy!

By Until the Pieces Fit

Glimmers, which are the opposite of triggers are those moments of pure joy and serenity that light up their lives. I use the materials to share and practice glimmers with my students & after just 3 days back the kids have already started using the term "glimmer" when something brings them joy!

The word Glimmers originates from Deb Dana, LCSW, psychotherapist, and author who coined the term. Glimmers which is the opposite of a trigger are those fleeting instances that bring us warmth and peace, offering a profound positive impact on our mental health. With gratitude & written permission from Deb Dana, I'm thrilled to share these activities with fellow educators!

Materials Included:

PowerPoint: Utilize the included PowerPoint slide show to introduce the concept of Glimmers to your students. With 40 slides featuring real-life pictures, students can begin to recognize things that bring them Glimmers. It also helps create connection and shared interests, with their classmates.

Worksheets:

8 student pages

  • identify your glimmers (things that make me happy, included, helpful etc)

  • I feel a glimmer when....

  • track your glimmers

  • Things I see, taste and hear that bring me glimmers

Bulletin Board: Colorful lettering (multiple styles) to make a bulletin board for your classroom or your school. Cards are included for students (& staff) to share the things that bring them glimmers

2 pages of "me and my Glimmer". Take a picture of your students happy with their glimmers & attach to the page. A great reminder of the things that bring us joy.

8x11 Posters: Sprinkle your class or school with five 8x11 posters. Whether it's in your classroom, hallway, or on your door, these posters serve as tangible reminders to celebrate life's Glimmers.

Exploration Beyond: Curious to learn more? Dive into the enlightening USA Today article on Glimmers and their mental health benefits: Link to USA Today Article. You can also explore more about Deb Dana and her insights on regulation at Deb Dana's Website.

Enhance the learning experience with our innovative mind-mapping activity. This creative approach allows students to visually connect concepts and ideas about resilience, fostering deeper understanding and retention.

We understand the importance of flexible teaching methods. Hence, our toolkit comes in two formats: a printer-friendly PDF for a tech-free classroom experience and a Google Slides version where students can engage digitally, typing directly into the resource.

Who is this for? Ideal for middle school teachers (Grades 4-8) looking to integrate Social Emotional Learning into their curriculum. This toolkit is especially beneficial for educators focusing on character development, resilience building, and fostering a growth mindset in their students. It's a versatile resource for both in-person and digital classroom settings.

Perfect for the beginning of the school year, our Resilience Toolkit is an essential addition to your classroom resources, aiding in the development of resilient, confident, and emotionally intelligent young individuals.

By Elena Tenisi

Christmas themed counseling activities. Resource has students think of how they can help a cranky Rudolph turn his day around. Students will get to explore anger, coping skills, and empathy as they place themselves in his shoes and think of what makes them cranky as well.
