Brainstorming Activity for Heritage Months, History Months, and Awareness Months

Don't know what to do for the upcoming Heritage Month? Not sure of an activity for African American Heritage Month? Ready for Women's History Month? And what about all those Awareness Months? Don't worry! I've got you covered! Just download this Brainstorming Activity for Heritage Months, History Months, and Awareness Months resource!
Using a simple A-B-C format for brainstorming, students complete a worksheet with the names of any of the people associated with the month. An easy-peasy way to introduce students to the wide variety of people who make these months special!
Examples for Women's History Month:
A - Amelia Earhart (this name could also be used for the letter "E")
B - Bessie Coleman
C - Coco Chanel
Etc!

These activities allow for deeper understanding and engagement into the themes studied in the 5th Grade Studies Weekly. These activities encourage students to present information in creative ways. Students also get involved in activities which lead to individual experience and group discussion.
Projects are designed to present information or respond to information. Reflection questions require students to combine their experiences with their knowledge and to think beyond what they already know. These questions help students delve into a new depth of knowledge.
These activities align with Indiana Social Studies standards: 5.E.1, 5.E.2, 5.H.6, 5.H.8, 5.H.9, 5.H.11.

Engaging Activities for 5th Grade Social Studies:
These activities keep students engaged throughout the year as they study United States History. Although these activities are aligned with Studies Weekly, each activity can be completed without Studies Weekly. "Missing" weeks are due to Studies Weekly assigning inquiries once per unit.

How did Indigenous Peoples help us with the constitution:
Students will research how the Articles of Confederation, the predecessor of the Constitution, compares with the Iroquois Confederacy. Students will gather information and complete a Venn Diagram concerning this topic.
This activity aligns with 5th Grade Studies Weekly. But, Studies Weekly is not necessary to complete this assignment. A link is suggested for useful information.
Aligns with Indiana Social Studies Standard 5.C.3.

Alliances with Native Americans Worksheets: 5th Grade Studies Weekly Week 18

Discover the consequences of the French and Indian War:
Students research how the alliances which were put into place following the French and Indian War effected the Native peoples. They will determine who gained power, who gained land, and who was taken advantage of during this time. Students will complete worksheets demonstrating their knowledge of the information which will lead to the movement of the Native peoples of the United States.
This is a great review or homework activity following the study of the French and Indian War.
This product aligns with Indiana Social Studies Standard 5.H.6.
