A Google Forms reading comprehension bundle with forty individual activities about key events in September, October, November and December, or famous figures that were either born or died in the fall. The activities, which come in PDF format too, have an informational text with comprehension and grammar questions followed by an extension task, are about the following people or topics:

• The Outbreak of World War 2 which began on the 1st September 1939

• The Great Depression, which began with the stock market crash on 'Black Thursday' on the 24th October 1929
• The famous artist, Pablo Picasso, who was born on the 25th October 1881
• The Microsoft founder and multi-billionaire, Bill Gates, who was born on the 28th October 1955
• The Italian dictator, Benito Mussolini, who came to power on the 29th October 1922
• Muhammed Ali, who defeated George Foreman in the Rumble in the Jungle on the 30th October 1974
• The World War 2 key events of Dunkirk & the Battle of Britain, which ended on the 31st October 1940
• Abraham Lincoln, who was elected as president on the 6th November 1860.

• Egyptian pharaoh**, Tutankhamun**, whose tomb was discovered by Howard Carter on the 26th November 1922.
• The British war time prime minister, Winston Churchill, who was born on the 30th November 1874.
• Rosa Parks, who was arrested on the 1st December 1955 for refusing to give up her seat on a segregated bus; the event gave birth to the U.S. Civil Rights Movement.

The first lesson involves students retrieving facts from informational texts about Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin Roosevelt and John F. Kennedy, and writing these on to a fact sheet. In the second lesson students need to use these facts to write three to four paragraphs about the individual presidents. In the third lesson students need to use prompt sheets to write up an introduction and a conclusion. In the final lesson your class will need to check their draft paragraphs for mistakes before writing up their work on a neat copy using the template provided.

A biography writing project about the life of Theodore Roosevelt, or Teddy Roosevelt as he is commonly known.

The NO PREP unit has been split into four separate lessons and is perfect for students in fifth grade or sixth grade. Students will learn about the famous figure whilst working on their comprehension skills and developing their creative writing.

• Four fact sheets which students need to cut out and sort into paragraphs
• Writing templates for four draft paragraphs
• Two prompt sheets for students to write their introduction and conclusion

The first lesson is interactive and involves students cutting out facts, and then sorting these facts into paragraphs. In the second lesson the students need to use these facts to write four paragraphs. Then, in the third lesson children need to choose the most important facts and include these in an introduction; after this they need to answer several questions on a prompt sheet before writing up their conclusion. In the final lesson students need to check their draft paragraphs for mistakes before writing up their work on to a neat copy on the template provided.

Time allowance to complete:

5-10 minutes - read through the text individually.

40-50 minutes - answer questions using the text as guidance (including extension activity)

Time allowance to assess:

A class set of activities might take around 15-20 minutes to mark; the teacher can then send the students their marks automatically, which allows them to read back through their work. Nearly all answers are not automatically generated, but only require a small amount of work to assign points. This is because the aim is to get students writing answers and not to just have multiple choice options.

Please ensure when you download this resource into Google Drive that you are logged in to the gmail account where you wish to store the activity. In the past teachers have downloaded resources into their school account in error. Thanks :)

A biography project about the life of Franklin Roosevelt, who was the president during the Great Depression and most of World War II. The NO PREP unit has been split into four separate lessons and is perfect for students in fifth grade or sixth grade. Students will learn about the famous figure whilst working on their comprehension skills and developing their creative writing.

The first lesson is interactive and involves students cutting out facts, and then sorting these facts into paragraphs. In the second lesson the students need to use these facts to write four paragraphs. Then, in the third lesson children need to choose the most important facts and include these in an introduction; after this they need to answer several questions on a prompt sheet before writing up their conclusion. In the final lesson students need to check their draft paragraphs for mistakes before writing up their work on to a neat copy on the template provided.
