Ideal for fifth grade or sixth grade, the breakout room activities are perfect for group work, starting a new history topic, President's Day activities, team-building activities or for fun, engaging and interactive lessons. In Task 1 of each activity students will read an informational text and then find their way through a maze by answering true or false comprehension questions. If they answer the questions correctly they will reveal their first word.

In Task 2 students will use the same informational text to complete a crossword puzzle. Within the puzzle there are several hidden letters which will need to be unscrambled on the completion of the puzzle to reveal the second word.

In Task 3 students will have to cut out 27 timeline task cards before putting them in order from the earliest date to the most recent. When they have finished their task they can glue them onto the answer key which will reveal their third word.

In Task 4 students will have to find the missing words in a wordsearch puzzle before finding a hidden word from the letters that are left over in the puzzle. This hidden word is their fourth and final word.

Students can then complete their student answer key with the four words they revealed before checking with the teacher to see if they have escaped successfully.

Firstly, there are six close reading activities, or informational texts, about:

• An Overview of the American Revolutionary War
• The Boston Tea Party
• The Siege of Boston
• The Battles of Trenton & Princeton
• The End of the War & The Treaty of Paris
• George Washington

These activities require NO PREP and have a body of text that students need to read through thoroughly; then they can use the text to find the comprehension and grammar answers. All texts then have an extension activity for those fast finishers. Answers, for teacher use, are on the final page of each document.

Also included is a great classroom display and sorting activity that is perfect for introducing students to some of the key events of the American Revolution. Firstly, there is a great classroom display and sorting activity that is perfect for introducing students to the key events of World War 2. There are 42 posters or cards that include many of the key events from the Second World War. The posters look great as a display in the classroom and the cards are a brilliant introduction to World War II. The displays and cards come both with dates and without dates, so the students can research the dates online before sorting the timeline. The cards look even better when laminated.
