Writing a story can be so overwhelming! I have come with this writing pack that is intended to help your students organize their ideas before writing their first draft. This step-by-step activity groups every aspect of story writing such as: genre, setting, characters, details, etc. It also helps the students with their descriptive writing by asking them targeted questions. Based off the book Shh! We're Writing the Constitution by Jean Fritz. This is a great resource for students or teachers to use and includes a worksheet, word search, writing prompt, and answer keys. The worksheet can be used either for making notes while reading the book or after reading to see how much information is retained. The word search will help students to retain words and names important to the forming of the constitution. The writing prompt will encourage students to use their own imagination while still using historical information.

Students read or watch A Christmas Carol and How the Grinch Stole Christmas, my students read A Christmas Carol and watched How the Grinch Stole Christmas, for an engaging activity before the holiday. A Christmas Carol was a challenge for the students, so watching How the Grinch Stole Christmas was a fun distraction.

Students will take notes on the provided worksheets to help keep track of information and make connections in a visual format. Notetaking helps keep students engaged in both stories. This also helps the students look at well know material in a new way.

Students can reach connections and have discussions with the information they gather.

This is such a fun creative writing activity. This activity has students work in a small group to create a fun and unique story. They will be passing around their writing outline to their group of 5. The first student will choose a character and their characteristics. Then fold the paper down so the next student cannot see what they have written. Student 2 will decide the setting and then fold the paper down again. This will continue to student 3 and 4 where they will choose the conflict and the solution. Then the original student will get their paper back and open their paper and use their outline to create their own creative story. This makes the writing a little bit challenging as they try to create a story that was chosen by their fellow classmates. This can also be a super fun and creative way to expand students writing by stretching them a little outside their comfort zone.

** Are you looking for a resource to teach students to understand temporal concepts or are you Teaching sequence of events, Following directions or Sentence writing?  These syntax activities will teach your students how to understand 25, higher level temporal concepts (prior to, simultaneous, thereafter).
