The first two resources helps students to learn about needs and wants and income & expenses and identify the difference between them. Students then apply their learned knowledge to a variety of questions and activities.

The two budgeting resources ask students use their learned knowledge of needs, wants, income and expenses to identify these items in monthly Bank Statements/ budgets. Students will practice identifying and calculating the amount of money needed for a desired expense (ex. Item or trip) and calculating how much money will need to be saved each month in order to attain the desired expense. Students will also examine the given budgets to calculate one - three individuals' total income, expenses, money saved, and identify additional ways for individuals to save. Students will also calculate weekly, monthly and yearly salary or expenses based off the given budget.

The Peer Evaluation Accountable Talk Discussion Rubric is meant for students to use and asses each other during Class Talk. Before beginning a discussion or debate, give each student a Peer Evaluation Rubric with another student’s name on it. (You can decide who will asses who, or you can just randomly write the names on Rubrics). Ask students to “secretly” observe and assess that student’s participation during the class discussion or debate. Students should not know who is assessing who so that evaluations of participation are fair. Throughout the discussion or debate, students will take meaningful notes of their classmates’ performances. At the end of the discussion or debate, give them 5 minutes to score the student whose name is on their Peer Evaluation Rubric. Finally, students can go up to the person they were observing and hand them the rubric. At the very end, the teacher collects the rubrics for review. This has worked so well for me! Students were always “on their toes." Students found it so exciting to be observed by classmates and also observe others.

• Negotiating a Compromise, the purple cards, focus on negotiating differences and engaging in compromise to resolve conflict instead of engaging in conflict. This can help students practice and improve conflict management skills.
• Dealing with Conflict, the green cards, focus on navigating through difficult situations and responding to them effectively and maturely. Students have opportunities to practice and adopt healthy ways of solving interpersonal problems.
• Bullying, Teasing, Put-Downs, the yellow cards, focus on addressing issues related to bullying behavior and reinforcing acts of kindness, cooperation, and tolerance.
• Effective Communication, the grey cards, focus on using communication skills to help resolve conflict – and prevent them from occurring, articulating messages with a pleasant attitude, and handling and communicating negative feelings in a positive way.
• Interview Questions, the light blue cards, focus on students practicing personalizing responses to 16 commonly asked interview questions (applicable for any job they apply for). Students focus on their choice of words when highlighting their skills and experiences and learn what is appropriate to say and what is not appropriate to say.
• Problem Solving, the burgundy cards, focuses on students finding solutions to problems or dealing with them effectively without causing further conflicts.

These fun, real-life Social Scenario Task Cards allow students to discuss a variety of social situations, brainstorm coping skills, and evaluate best solutions in different scenarios.

How/When To Use Scenario Task Cards

• Role-Playing: Students can collaborate in pairs or groups to act out a variety of scenarios and demonstrate appropriate responses. Role-playing activities can also be used to show how skills are used improperly and then asking the 'audience' to help reenact properly. This activity can ultimately improve confidence, communication, and assertiveness skills.
• Icebreaker: This can be a great way to start a meeting, training session, or team-building activity. It’s also a great way to get students to get to know each other and buy into the purpose of an upcoming activity or lesson.
• Play Writing Exercise: Students can work in groups to create skits or scenes then perform the skit for the class.
• Writing Response: Students can be given a task scenario to read and then write their responses. Students can switch papers with a partner who then reads their responses and determines whether they agree/disagree with their responses/approaches to these real-life scenarios.
• Discussion: Students can discuss the Social Scenario Task Cards in groups or whole class. They can discuss things like “What would you do?”, “Why would you do that?”, and “What are some other approaches you could consider?”
