Context Clues is an important skill that students must master in order to improve and enhance their comprehension of texts. When students come across an unfamiliar word while reading, they can try to understand its meaning by using context clues. This skill is especially important for students to apply on state exams to help them meet proficiency.

This resource includes 10 Context Clues Worksheets where students read 1-2 sentences that contain an underlined vocabulary word and use a variety of context clues including definition, synonym, antonym, example, and inference to infer the meanings of the underlined words. Students are also required to underline and highlight the context clues in the sentence(s) that helped them determine the meanings of the underlined words.

Students read 1-2 sentences and answer the following two questions:

A NOVEL STUDY and Literacy Unit for NEVERMOOR The Trials of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend.

This BOOK COMPANION is a highly engaging and comprehensive literature unit that allows your students to respond to a story by using a wide range of reading comprehension strategies and skills.

**With comprehension questions and activities for each chapter, students will cover many of the Grades 4, and 5 and 6 ELA Common Core State Standards in context.**This unit is packed with Common Core aligned activities and includes printable and digital versions.

The unit can be followed chapter by chapter, with no extra preparation or planning required by the teacher. Follow-up activities include a comprehension follow up and one to three extra literacy task for each chapter. The extra activities allow for students to demonstrate their understanding through tasks that require them to synthesise, analyse and apply, drawing from their understanding of the story.
