This resource is a simple template for an apology letter. While working with middle school students, I heard a lot of snarky comments being spewed without much forethought. I started having students write apology letters when those comments came out. The template is designed to help students think about their intentions, how they likely made the other person feel, and what they will do differently in the future.

A great little get-to-know you activity, suitable for new classes where students don't know each other well yet. It also encourages students to think a little more deeply about themselves and how sharing such details may help them to broaden their friendships.

Are your students struggling to be respectful during a classroom lesson - talking, blurting, and other things going on instead of listening respectfully? This lesson puts the students right in those shoes and gives them a glimpse into what that can be like. Not only is it engaging (and kind of silly) but impactful and real. This resource should accompany the play The Diary of Anne Frank by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett. This resource includes a notes sheet with resources for students to learn about the four communication styles: passive, aggressive, passive-aggressive, and assertive. Students are asked to think about their own communication styles.

There is also a Google Slides assignment for students to complete by explaining the communication styles of the characters in The Diary of Anne Frank. Students should name the style that they feel best fits each character and explain their reasoning.

3. Distribute the Pass: When a student feels overwhelmed, they can ask for the pass. You can also offer it proactively if you notice a student struggling.
4. Time for Reflection: Allow the student to spend a few minutes in the calm down area to relax and regain focus.
5. Positive Reinforcement: After the break, engage in a brief conversation with the student about their feelings and reinforce the positive choice they made.
