Ice Breaker Activity: Find someone who... ESL - ELL
By Love Learning Languages - French Resources
❖ Ice Breaker Activity: Find someone who... ESL - ELL ❖
Find someone who... This group speaking activity is great for getting students to speak to each either at back to school as an ice-breaker or at the end of the year. 5 versions of this activity are included so you can easily use it 5 separate times during the year without being repetitive. This activity is great for building community in the classroom no matter what subject students are learning.
How to play:
Have your students move around the room asking classmates if they have ever done what is written in the squares on the worksheet that you provide. If a classmate responds with YES he or she writes his name on the line provided. Complete sentences are encouraged even when the answer is NO. Activity continues until all boxes are filled. Once all of the boxes have been signed your students can turn in their papers.
Your students will enjoy learning fun facts about their classmates, and you will certainly like seeing them getting to know each other!

I have ... Who has? ESL - ELL house and home vocabulary activity
By Love Learning Languages - French Resources
❖ I have ... Who has? ESL - ELL house and home vocabulary activity ❖
This is a really fun game to practice with your students who are learning vocabulary about HOUSE AND HOME, and it involves NO PREP. I've included both a beginner and intermediate version of the game. The beginner version has the words written out and the intermediate version only shows pictures. Have a look at the thumbnails to see what they look like.
Each version includes 32 cards. Depending on class size you could either give each student more than one card or have them play with a partner. I recommend printing out and laminating these cards if possible so that you can use them over and over again.
Here's how this activity works. Once each student has a card (or cards), the one who has the card that says "I'll begin" starts the game. He says, for example, "I'll begin. I have the fireplace. Who has the window?" The person who has the card with a window on it says, "I have the window. Who has the curtains?" And so the activity goes on until the last card is called and that student's card will say, "That's the end!"
Another idea is to prepare two sets of cards, divide your class into two groups and let each group have a go to see which team can get through the entire deck of cards the fastest. If the vocabulary is completely new you could start out with the beginner deck and as the words become more familiar you could move on to the intermediate level. It's really a lot of fun, and though you can play with younger students the older ones love this game just as much.
This resource is included in my ESL - ELL speaking, listening, writing activities and games - Growing bundle.

House and Home 20 questions games - No prep ESL speaking activities
By Love Learning Languages - French Resources
✯ House and Home 20 questions games - No prep ESL speaking activities ✯
4 versions of the game are included for a total of 208 vocabulary words.
Have students work in pairs, small groups of 2-4, or project the version of the game that you want to use and do a whole class activity.
Each version includes 52 house and home words. This resource includes a total of 208 words. Many of the words will likely be new to your students as this game is meant not only to practice speaking and listening, but also to build vocabulary. I like to allow my students to look at the game chart while they play until they’re somewhat familiar with the words.
One student in the small group or class chooses a word on the chart. Other students ask up to 20 questions trying to guess the secret word.
Are you an object?
Are you a room?
Are you in the kitchen?
Are you in the bedroom?
Are you in the bathroom?
...etc...
The student who has chosen the secret word can answer using the following responses: YES - NO - SOMETIMES - RARELY - USUALLY - MAYBE - IT DEPENDS - PROBABLY
Alternative game play:
To change up the game and to make it more challenging as well as practicing other skills, have the student who chooses the secret word describe it to others in the group. Instead of asking questions about the secret word, other students listen to the description and guess it.
This resource is included in my ESL - ELL speaking, listening, writing activities and games - Growing bundle.
