Why do maps change? How do boundaries change?

There are may political, economic, and social factors that reshape our world and our maps. Students will participate in the introductory PowerPoint presentation and will visit historical events that have shaped our world and today's maps. Time allowance to complete:
5-10 minutes - read through the text individually.
40-50 minutes - answer questions using the text as guidance (including extension activity)

Time allowance to assess:
A class set of activities might take around 15-20 minutes to mark; the teacher can then send the students their marks automatically, which allows them to read back through their work. Nearly all answers are not automatically generated, but only require a small amount of work to assign points. This is because the aim is to get students writing answers and not to just have multiple choice options.

This career unit gives students an introduction to the government and public administration career cluster and what a career in this field would be like. This is perfect for a career, technology, CTE or business class.

The included PowerPoint presentation can be used by the teacher for whole class instruction, or provided to the students electronically (or as a printout) for them to review individually. Students use close reading skills with a short informational passage to learn about the career field and answer questions to use critical thinking skills and demonstrate their understanding. Two different puzzles are included to learn different jobs in the career and to reinforce vocabulary skills. A technology based project (using MS Word or MS Publisher) to research information about a related topic is included to allow students to use critical thinking and creativity to further explore the career field. Additionally, a group current event project that can be completed without student computer access (by the teacher printing out the articles from the linked information) or providing access to a computer for each group to research is provided to allow students to utilize critical thinking skills and teamwork. Finally, a short reflection questionnaire gives students the opportunity to reflect and analyze their learning as they determine if this career field is of interest to them.

The project was created for grades 7-8 but could easily be used with high school students. The teacher can choose to use some or all of the provided lesson options included in this resource.

This lesson is great for distance learning/remote learning. You can upload it to your school's learning management system (Google Classroom, Edmodo, Canvas, etc.) or share with students via Google Drive.

Firstly, there is a great World War I Digital Research and Sorting Activity that is perfect for introducing students to some of the key events of the war. Great for class work, distance learning or home schooling. In total there are 30 posters or task cards that need to be researched and sorted. These can also be printed to make a great classroom display.

Then there is a World War 1 Close Reading Activity. The Google Forms activity comes with an informational text that students need to read through before answering comprehension and grammar questions. An extension writing task is also included.

Finally there is also a World War I Informational Text Writing Activity. The activity focuses on key facts about the war, and has been split into four separate lessons which will take students approximately 40-50 minutes each.

In this lesson, students learn more about the history of the computer. The lesson starts with a Microsoft PowerPoint whole class presentation that gives an overview of computer history from the 1950’s through current times. Next, students work in small groups to research history information from an assigned decade and then to create a presentation using Microsoft PowerPoint (or Google Slides) to share with the class. Time allowance to complete each activity:

5-10 minutes - read through the text individually.

40-50 minutes - answer questions using the text as guidance (including extension activity)

Time allowance to assess:

A class set of activities might take around 15-20 minutes to mark; the teacher can then send the students their marks automatically, which allows them to read back through their work. Nearly all answers are not automatically generated, but only require a small amount of work to assign points. This is because the aim is to get students writing answers and not to just have multiple choice options.

In this lesson, students learn interesting facts about the invention of three media sources:  radio, television, and the Internet as they complete several projects including a WebQuest (Internet Scavenger Hunt) to answer questions about each of the topics.    A complete answer key is provided for the WebQuests for easy grading, along with resources for both teachers and students.  The student questions are included in both a print version and a digital (editable) version to make it easy for students to complete the lesson digitally or on paper.  Also included with this lesson is an editable acrostic puzzle that can be printed for students or completed on the computer (file provided in MS Word which can be opened in Google Docs if you prefer).  It includes two versions of the puzzle for differentiation and an answer key, which is perfect for early finishers or as a part of the lesson.   As a bonus, with this bundle an additional word search puzzle is included that covers all three topics (includes an answer key).

This lesson is intended to be an introduction to the topics and was designed for middle school (grades 6-8) but could be used in high school as well.  This lesson could be used in a history or technology class and is also a great lesson to leave for a substitute teacher!

This bundle contains digital resources, either on Google Forms or Google Slides, that link to your Google Drive. It contains an American Revolutionary War digital timeline research and sorting activity; a digital close reading activity about the war; and a digital informational text writing unit. 6 Online Lessons, or 6 hours of activities, with NO PREP needed! The Google Forms and Google Slides activities are ideal for distance learning and perfect for students in 5th grade or 6th grade learning about the American War of Independence or U.S. History.

Firstly, there is a great American Revolution Digital Research and Sorting Activity that is perfect for introducing students to some of the key figures and events of the American Revolutionary War. Great for class work, distance learning or home schooling. In total there are 29 posters or task cards that need to be researched and sorted. These can also be printed to make a great classroom display.

Then there is an American Revolutionary War Close Reading Activity. The Google Forms activity comes with an informational text that students need to read through before answering comprehension and grammar questions. An extension writing task is also included.

Finally there is also an American Revolutionary War Informational Text Writing Activity. The activity focuses on key facts about the war, and has been split into four separate lessons which will take students approximately 40-50 minutes each.

In this lesson, students learn more about both the classic Seven Wonders of the World and the “new” Seven Wonders project as they research the history, design and engineering of the wonders. The lesson starts with a whole class Microsoft PowerPoint presentation (editable) to view the Wonders and start discussion. Next, students choose one of the classic and one of the “new” Wonders to research further and create a presentation with that information (using Microsoft PowerPoint or Google Slides). Optionally, these may be presented to the class. In the next part of the assignment, they design an “Eighth Wonder” of their own (to scale) based on what they learned, using Sketchup (a free CAD program that can be downloaded at: https://www.sketchup.com/ or used as an online tool). After completing the drawing, students build a model of their Wonder to scale using chipboard, cardboard or other materials. The building activity can be done as a team/small group activity if you prefer. Finally, students answer questions to reflect on their learning for this unit. This project based learning unit is perfect for middle school (6-8) classes that focus on careers, technology, history or CTE.

Unit Lesson Plans include:

1. Unit Plan, Teacher & Student Resources

2. History of Inventions Timeline Project (Web 2.0 – www.tiki-toki.com)

3. Exploring Inventions Project (PowerPoint)

4. Researching an Inventor (Web 2.0 – www.weebly.com)

Students create a timeline to show a century of inventions of their choice and make real-world connections in how those inventions influenced our history and society. Next, they choose five different inventions in different categories to explore in depth and create a PowerPoint. Finally, students research an inventor of interest and create a web page about them and their inventions, further connecting their learning to their own world and giving it an authentic audience.

My 7th graders loved sharing their research with each other and challenged each other to "think outside the box" as they gained a better understanding of technology and history. I know your students will enjoy this too!

This lesson is great for distance learning/remote learning. You can upload it to your school's learning management system (Google Classroom, Edmodo, Canvas, etc.) or share with students via Google Drive.

It contains an Anne Frank and World War 2 digital timeline research and sorting activity; a digital close reading activity about the young Holocaust victim; and a digital biography writing unit. 6 Online Lessons, or 6 hours of activities, with NO PREP needed! The Google Forms and Google Slides activities are ideal for distance learning and perfect for students in 3rd grade or 4th grade learning about Anne Frank and World War II.

Firstly, there is a great Anne Frank Digital Research and Sorting Activity that is perfect for introducing students to her life and some of the key events of World War 2. Great for class work, distance learning or home schooling. In total there are 43 posters or task cards that need to be researched and sorted. These can also be printed to make a great classroom display.

Then there is an Anne Frank Close Reading Activity. The Google Forms activity comes with an informational text that students need to read through before answering comprehension and grammar questions. An extension writing task is also included.

Finally there is also an Anne Frank Biography Writing Activity. The activity focuses on key facts about her life, and has been split into four separate lessons which will take students approximately 40-50 minutes each.
