Includes 6-9 weeks of fashion design lessons including fashion design history, a digital notebook with 22 pages of lessons including color, design, vocabulary, fabrics, digital portfolio, writing activities and careers; famous fashion designers, a related math lesson, and the opportunity for students to create their own fashion (or fashion line).

This lesson is great for distance learning/remote learning. You can upload it to your school's learning management system (Google Classroom, Edmodo, Canvas, etc.) or share with students via Google Drive.

Materials Required:

• Computers with Internet access for each student (or pair of students)

• Access to Microsoft PowerPoint or Google Slides (Digital Notebook)

• Access to Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop or Microsoft Paint (optional – suggested Web 2.0 tools above can be used in place of these) for Designing Your Own Fashions

• Drawing tablets (optional, but will allow students to achieve more professional results) for Designing Your Own Fashions

Approximate Lesson Duration:

Lessons can be completed in any order and take approximately six to nine weeks to complete, depending on which version of the fashion design creation lesson is used.

• History of Fashion Design: 3-4 days (longer if students present to class)

• Digital Interactive Fashion Notebook: 2 weeks

• Famous Fashion Designers and Their Influence on Society: 3-4 days (longer if students present to class)

• Designing Your Own Fashions: 1-3 weeks (depending on which version of the design lesson is used)

• Real World Math – How Fashion Designers Use Math: 1-2 days

Lessons are organized in folders within a compressed (.zip) file for easy access, and can be printed or delivered digitally to students. These lessons are suitable for Family and Consumer Science, Fashion Design, Principles of Arts, A/V Technology & Communications, and other Technology classes. The project was created for grades 7-8 but could easily be used with high school students.
