The Winter Holiday Greeting Card Unit gives teachers and students three fun options to choose from to create a holiday project to share. Tutorials and projects are included for:

• Video eCard utilizing Kizoa (www.kizoa.com)

• Animated greeting card utilizing Microsoft PowerPoint

• Printable paper card, designed in Microsoft Word

Kizoa is a free Web 2.0 tool which allows students to create and edit videos online, as well as create ecards, photo collages, and edit photos. They can then share their finished product online or by saving it to their computer. No download is required to use the product, making it easy for teachers who are not able to download software on classroom computers to still give their students a choice in learning. The quick start tutorial included with the lesson is intended to help students get started with the program and then use the resources within the program to refine their creations. General project instructions and expectations, along with a grading rubric are also included.

They can also utilize Microsoft PowerPoint to create an animated greeting card. A complete, step-by-step instruction guide is included, along with the project expectations and rubric.

The third option is a more traditional paper card, created in Microsoft Word. A complete, step-by-step instruction guide is included, along with the project expectations and rubric.

This great lesson lets students learn the basics of Microsoft Excel (or Google Sheets) as they create pixel art using the program. First, they'll create a quick pixel art from a given example and then they'll create their own! These are also fun lessons to use if you just need something for a one day lesson.

Incorporate STEAM in your classroom by combining technology with math and art! This unit teaches students the geometry of tessellations by combining art and math. First, students learn about what tessellations are and their history, as well as the math behind them as they answer questions by searching for the information on the Internet in a WebQuest. Next, they create tessellations following a step-by-step tutorial in MS PowerPoint. After creating three simple tessellations following the steps, they create a tessellation of their own and write a short paragraph explaining the math in their design.

For classrooms that don’t have access to technology (or teachers who prefer to do this without using technology), starter tessellation handouts (editable) are included so students can do the design portions on paper. This is perfect for a technology class, a math class, or an art class. The project was created for grades 7-8 but could easily be adapted for older students.

Students start this unit with a WebQuest to learn about the history and evolution of Young Adult literature. Then, students research specific information about an individual author and create their choice of a video or presentation using their choice of software. They can research an author choice of their own or choose from a provided list. In this lesson, students learn interesting facts about the history of Rock & Roll as they complete several projects including a WebQuest (Internet Scavenger Hunt) to answer questions about the topic.    A complete answer key is provided for the WebQuest for easy grading, along with resources for both teachers and students.  The student questions are included in both a print version and a digital (editable) version to make it easy for students to complete the lesson digitally or on paper.  Also included with this lesson is a word search puzzle that includes an answer key, perfect for early finishers or as a part of the lesson.  Finally, students research their choice of a Rock & Roll musician and create a presentation about their contributions to the field of Rock & Roll using their choice of Microsoft PowerPoint or Google Slides. 

This lesson is intended to be an introduction to the topic and was designed for middle school (grades 6-8) but could be used in high school as well.  This lesson could be used in a music, history or technology class and is also a great lesson to leave for a substitute teacher!
