This Adding Integers Discovery Lesson is great for having your students figure out the rule for adding a positive and negative number together through a series of strategically planned activities! A full lesson plan is included to help you implement this discovery lesson!
Students will start off completing a Do Now and then do a turn and talk about the Do Now with a partner. After that they will complete a Let's Explore section to figure out the connections between adding a positive and negative number and the answer they are getting. After that they will fill out a notices and wonders chart and then come up with a rule for how to add a positive and negative number! They will test the rule out to see if it actually works and check it on a desk number line!
