Negative thoughts have a profound effect on students’ academic and social successes, behaviors, emotions, self-esteem, and happiness. Negative thinking and self-talk can hold them back and keep them from their full potential. In cognitive behavioral therapy, there are dozens of thinking errors that cause the mind to believe things that are just not true. Empower students to escape negative thinking by guiding them to reframe negative, faulty thoughts to positive thoughts. These engaging, highly relevant activities, scenarios, and writing/discussion prompts can support you in helping your students develop this critical life skill: the ability to take notice of their thoughts, to step back and view the “bigger” picture, and to decide how to act based on that more realistic perspective.

This product includes 67 themed social stories that focus on the following. Students will learn synonyms that relate with each social story and different vocabulary words that relate with the theme of each story.

In each social story, students will discuss and answer questions that relate with one of the 67 feeling. Students will learn what they can do to feel better when experiencing a certain feeling, who they can talk to, how they can cope when feeling a certain way, how they can help their friends/family members when they are feeling a certain way, etc.

Each social story allows students to think about the different feelings when they discuss and answer comprehension questions throughout each social story. Some of the questions require students to put their feet in the shoes of the characters. At the end of each social story, there are 4 role-playing scenario cards that will require students to discuss each feeling presented, how students would feel in a given situation that relates with a certain feeling, and what students can do when they feel that way.
