With this product students are provided with a lengthy list of female names, male names, and gender neutral names to choose from, possible setting ideas that also include words that focus on the time of day, time of year, days of the week, and months. This packet also provided plot ideas for a variety of writing assignments such as story ideas about life, science fiction, adventure, mystery, fantasy, funny stories, friendship, superhero, family, and animal story ideas. Students do not have to use the examples provided or even the characters names, but it does provide them with a boost of confidence to pick their own topic.

Awards for literary reading, speaking, listening, writing, informational reading, language conventions, and some miscellaneous awards are included and saved by category in separate folders.

These awards could be given throughout the school year and for a school-wide awards program. These awards are a great way reward and to motivate your students to do well as well as create a positive inspiring classroom culture.

This product is an editable PowerPoint file, you must have PowerPoint software to use this product.

Editable means only the text can be edited.

This resource should accompany Kwame Alexander's novel The Door of No Return. There are 8 journal prompts total. One should be completed before starting the story, and one after finishing the story. Cover pages are included. This resource contains 18 PDF pages. 9 sheets are in color, and 9 are black/white.

The questions in this journal are related to the story. They ask students to predict, characterize, think about text structure and author's choice, and compare this story to others about slavery. There are many lines for students to use while journaling to organize their writing.

This lesson should accompany Grace Lin's short story The Difficult Path. This resource includes a 12 page slides presentation with pre-reading questions, 7 vocabulary words from the story, tiered reading questions, and questions focused on one particular standard: Analyze how a modern work of fiction draws on themes, patterns of events, or character types from other stories. The presentation includes an answer key.
