These questions are designed to evaluate students' proficiency in identifying various figurative language techniques, including simile, metaphor, hyperbole, idiom, personification, and onomatopoeia. Each card presents 1-2 sentences for students to analyze and determine the specific figurative language technique used.

These Task Cards are ideal for small group instruction, mini lessons, guided practice, test preparation, literacy centers, and formative assessments—or even quizzes!

During mini lessons, you can demonstrate how to identify figurative language in sentences. They are also valuable for guided practice sessions, allowing students to identify figurative language with your assistance. Additionally, they serve as excellent formative assessments. This skill is especially important for students to apply on state exams to meet proficiency.
