This Four Corners Game is a fun, no-prep activity you can use to review Figurative Language that your students will LOVE! They will love moving around the room as you click through the 40 examples of figurative language, such as hyperbole, metaphor, simile, and personification. I’ve found that although my students can tell me the definition of these terms, simile is the only one they can truly pick out in a text. As a result, their writing is filled with overused similes that need work! You will love this well-organized activity that allows students to test their knowledge, get exposure to high-quality examples, and even learn something new! This is an activity I use in my classroom every year during our narrative writing unit and I know your students will love it!

STUDENT GUIDELINES FOR USING THIS RESOURCE

After reading each figurative language example on the board, move to the side of the room labeled “Metaphor,” “Simile,” “Hyperbole,” or “Personification.” Be prepared to defend your choices. You may disagree with your classmates’ opinions but do so respectfully. (I typically go over each example with students and discuss the impact of the words or phrases to uncover the deeper meaning. Ask questions such as, "what is being compared?" or "what can the reader visualize?")

*As an optional follow-up activity, use my No-Prep Figurative Language Short Passage Set resource to assess individual understanding, homework, or assessment!

REFLECTION:
The class can review the answers and comments as a whole group when the activity is complete. You’ll be surprised how much better they’ll get at figurative language after being exposed to some high-quality examples!

In this product, students will learn the English vocabulary word for the 95 different animals/insects vocabulary words presented. Students will initially write each vocabulary word in their native language and after learning the English word, students will complete the animals vocabulary review where they will be required to fill in the English and their native language for each animal vocabulary word. Pictures are included for each vocabulary word to help students make connections to what each animal vocabulary word is. Students can do this independently or with help. As a video production teacher, one of the most important parts of my class is to make sure that my students can write a script. Whether it’s the script for the daily news show or the script for a short film, the process is still the same...it’s basic writing. I take a week at the beginning of the semester to talk about script writing in general. Here are those plans.

Day 1 ~ Introduce the idea of movie scripts. Read some movie scripts. Links included to three movies.

Day 2 ~ Brainstorm your script. Work out details on Location.

Day 3 ~ Character Development

Day 4 ~ Introduce Synopsis

Day 5 ~ Write Synopsis and Share movie ideas

This resource focuses on CHAPTER 15 of We Beat The Street and features 5 inference-based questions that require students to demonstrate inferential thinking and a deep analysis of the chapter - beyond literal comprehension. Each inference-based question can be treated as an extended response where students must make inferences and support their responses, ideas, and/or analysis with evidence from the text.

► There is a "combo" worksheet, which includes all five questions on two pages. There are also 5 separate worksheets that include the same questions on a different worksheet. This allows for more extensive responses. You can have students either complete all five inference-based questions on the "combo" worksheet all at once OR you can have students complete each of the questions at different times: for classwork, independent practice, homework, or formative assessment - your choice! You can even give students different questions depending on their levels - excellent for differentiation.

► I also included a blank worksheet for you to generate your own question and students write it in the box!

► A detailed ANSWER KEY for the questions have been included. The ideas and evidence in the Answer Keys are accompanied by page numbers to help you facilitate discussion more smoothly and navigate to important ideas and events without looking for the information in the book. The Answer Keys are so comprehensive that you can even develop additional questions that will encourage students to engage in productive classroom talk!

► A 2-Point rubric is included for scoring with a section for comments and feedback at the bottom.
