Students respond to several statements that challenge or support their preconceived ideas about key concepts as well as their peers’ ideas. The Anticipation Guides can help structure meaningful conversations that reviews what students already know and engages them in critical thinking about the topic they will be exploring. The statements in the Anticipation Guides can spark some great discussions among students!! This Anticipation Guide and Self-Assessment focuses on Growth Mindset.

ANTICIPATION GUIDES

There is ONE Anticipation Guide that comes in two different variations:

▶️ Variation #1:

⭐ Part 1: The first section of the Anticipation Guide features a list of statements alongside columns labeled "AGREE" and "DISAGREE." Students are tasked with reading each statement and marking either "AGREE" or "DISAGREE" based on their perspective.

⭐ Part 2: The second section of the Anticipation Guide prompts students to choose a statement from the list above and delve into its significance to them. They may reflect on how the statement connects to their own lives, share a personal experience related to it, or elaborate on their thoughts concerning its importance in greater detail.

▶️ Variation #2: This Anticipation Guide worksheet format includes a list of statements accompanied by columns for "AGREE," "DISAGREE," and "COMMENTS." Students are instructed to read each statement and mark either "AGREE" or "DISAGREE." They are then encouraged to elaborate on their thoughts or ideas regarding each statement in the designated "COMMENTS" column.

SELF-ASSESSMENT

There is ONE Growth Mindset Self-Assessment included in this resource. Students will assess and recognize fixed mindset elements in themselves and identify areas in which they can work to develop a growth mindset by scoring the statements using the following scale: 2 for “Always,” 1 for “Sometimes,” and 0 for “Never.” They can use this assessment tool to help them identify areas where they can strengthen their growth mindset and improve their approach to challenges and learning.

These assessment statements can also serve as a means to explore students' competencies and viewpoints regarding the topic!

In this lesson, students will gain a frame of reference for understanding how multiple factors can influence how history is written. This resource will prompt students to be able to answer not only “What happened?” BUT-- “How do you know?” and “Why do you believe your interpretation is valid?”

Critical questions are posed;

• What kind of factors can influence how history is written?
• What is a primary source? What is a secondary source? Strengths and limitations of each?
• Does one's analysis of recent historical events differ from distant past events?

Students will explore these important questions through the study of Christopher Columbus. Through the analysis of primary & secondary sources, students will re-examine the way in which the Columbus story has been portrayed in mainstream literature. A culminating Venn diagram activity will complete the lesson.

This Algebra 2 Back to School Mystery Picture is the perfect way to celebrate back to school! Students will factor 16 polynomials using Difference of Square, Greatest Common Factor and when a = 1, find the answer on the grid and hand draw the image they see in the box onto the grid! In the end they will have a hand drawn Back to School picture which would make a great bulletin board!

This Solving two step linear equations Mystery Picture is the perfect way to review two step equations! Students will solve 16 two step equations using inverse operations, find the answer on the grid and hand draw the image they see in the box onto the grid! In the end they will have a hand drawn picture which would make a great bulletin board!

I love this activity because:

- you can review two step equations

- it keeps students engaged and excited to learn

- it will take the whole period and allow students to express their drawing skills

* Drawing is also super relaxing so the class environment will most likely be pretty calm, which we all love :) *

Directions:

• Put students into groups or breakout rooms of 4-6 students
• Go over the directions with students:
• Wait for the impromptu topic to show up on the screen (ex: why schools should have a designated nap time)
• Decide who in the group will start and that student will have 30 seconds to prepare for their speech after the topic is revealed
• After 30 seconds the student will present their topic for 30 seconds

Optional Points:

• Secretly give points/take away points from group members on a small whiteboard or notebook paper
• Groups can earn by: Focusing on good voice, being creative with their responses, eye contact, posture, using an opening/closing statement, and making good points for your topic
• Groups can lose points by: being a poor audience member, having poor posture, not using good voice, not using eye contact, using filler words: like, um, so, okay, yeah, kinda…
