Bierce's "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" identifies a young planter in northern Alabama during the American Civil War. Section I is in the present and past, as we learn about the bridge and why he's there. Section II is a flashback of where the political protagonist is coming from and what led to his demise.
