Globalization and Interdependence describes the relationships of mutual dependence between all elements and life forms (including humans) within and across cultures, environments, and social systems. In this product, students will learn about the 19th Amendment, what it is, the timeline as to how the 19th Amendment was put into effect and just how long it took. Information about the process it took and how it was rejected by different parts of the government is shared ranging from 1878 to the November 1920 election, what the women's suffrage movement was, who was involved, and what they did, President Woodrow Wilson, Harry Burn, Senator Aaron A. Sargent, Ellen Clark Sargent, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Susan B. Anthony and the role that each of them had in the passing of the 19th Amendment, students will learn about Congress - the Senate and the House of Representatives, and will briefly learn about the 3 Branches of Government to help students understand which branch helped pass the 19th Amendment, students will briefly learn about who was involved in World War I and what happened at the end of World War I, why women became involved in World War I, what their roles were in World War I, what jobs women had during this time, and how this lead to the 19th Amendment. Students will also learn about how the 19th Amendment in 1869 was different from 1920 and why, how the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was important as well as the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, students will also learn about when women could vote in 15 states from 1869 - 1918, and the first states to ratify the 19 Amendment.

Through this PowerPoint, students will become aware of people and events that played an integral part in shaping the 20th Century. It is encouraging that the teacher removes or mutes the free song included in the PowerPoint and plays Billy Joel's 1989 Hit: We Didn't Start The Fire, which depicts major events and people who influence the 20th Century written about in Joel's song.
NOTE: The song on the PowerPoint is a free song, but can be removed or muted in order to play Billy Joel's We Didn't Start the Fire, easily downloaded on iTunes or can be obtained using Pandora or Spotify. Legality reason will not allow one to sell a copyrighted song in their materials.

In this product, students will learn about the Missouri Compromise, Compromise of 1850, and North and South Notes and Review. Vocabulary covered: raw materials, free states and slave states as of 1820, trains, factories, Eli Whitney, cotton, and slaves. A vocabulary review is included as well as a fill in the blank vocabulary review that includes a key.
Students will learn about the Missouri Compromise, Compromise of 1850, and North and South Notes and Review. The United States government will be initially reviewed to review who Congress and the Senate is, but the House of Representatives and the three branches of government. The North and South are reviewed in this product that includes the years between 1820 - 1860.
The North: What was used at this time to run machines, who owned machines, how machines were powered, how and why cities started to develop, how raw materials and factories relate with one another, the use of the railroad brought factory products to people, working conditions in factories, and changes in cities that took place
The South: Cotton was growing on plantations and farms in the South, who worked on these plantations, how plantations grew and who worked on these farms, who invented the cotton gin, what the cotton gin did and how it was different from removing seeds by hand and how much time was saved, what cotton was known for in the South, who worked on plantations and how they were treated, and the kind of work slaves were required to do in the South.
The Missouri Compromise:
In 1820, how many states were free states and how many states were slave states. The argument that the North and South had with each other about wanting Missouri to be on their side and why, what people wanted in the North and what people wanted in the South after the Missouri Compromise, why the North and South were divided, which states became free states and slaves states between 1820-1850, the Compromise of 1850 and what it entailed, and when slavery ended.

Who doesn't like a scavenger hunt? Students will find this North America Scavenger Hunt motivating, and it will encourage students to examine the physical, political, economic, and cultural characteristics of North America, including Canada, the United States, Mexico, and the Caribbean. This is the perfect activity to introduce to begin your North America unit or as a follow-up activity at the end of the unit.
For this activity, provide each student with a student activity sheet. Students will work in collaborative groups of two to four, depending on their class ability and experience working in cooperative groups using the Internet, books, and other resources that are available to them.
MATERIALS NEEDED:
- 1 student activity sheet, North America chart, and map for each student—although they are working in groups, each student needs to have questions and answers for their notes.
- World population density map (attached)
- Physical world map
- Atlases
- Computer stations
- Reference books from the library

GEOGRAPHY, TIME ZONE FOOTBALL, READING A TIME ZONE MAP

What a fun way to learn how to read a time zone map! If you are doing this at the beginning of the year, it's probably football season, too. Your students will have fun playing football while learning how to read a time zone map. Your students won't feel like they are learning through all the fun! My students love this game!
This is football with a twist and modified for time limitations. Please always feel free to modify our lessons to meet the needs of your students and time restrictions. Enjoy!
OBJECTIVES:
(1) The learner will become familiar with a 24-hour (universal) clock.
(2) The learner will learn and use the meanings of a.m. and p.m. appropriately.
(3) The learner will review the Eastern and Western Hemispheres and will understand when traveling west, one subtracts time, and when traveling east, one adds time.
(3) The learner will become familiar with reading a time zone map.
(4) The learner will demonstrate an understanding of time zone changes
by calculating the time at different degrees of longitude.
MATERIALS:
- Game Pieces: Footballs, Game board, 16 Game Cards
- Some Form of Projector to Project the game onto the board,

South America Geography Double-Die Scavenger Hunt (Introductory Review Game)

It is important that our student have fun as they are learning! Implement this group cooperating activity as a means of teaching your students the cultural, geographical, governmental and economics of South America. This scavenger hunt has a twist as it is not only a hunt, but also a game all in one. This lesson can be modified to only be used as a scavenger hunt if needed.
The goal of the game is to earn the most points without answering the same questions twice. Students will take turns rolling die to determine which question they will attempt to answer. They will be given 60 seconds and resources to help in determining the answer if they do not already know it. Students will have a blast! Before you know it, class will be over and they will have gained/reviewed a wealth of knowledge.
This Lesson May Be Used For the Following:

Geography: Understanding Culture and Subculture Cooperative Learning

In our global society, our students need to understand how **cultures are developed **and how they adapt to and adopt practices and beliefs from others through cultural diffusion. As students understand cultures vs subcultures, it will help them navigate and appreciate the diverse world we live in. In this lesson, students will look at "the American culture" vs its subcultures.
Students will enjoy working in **cooperative groups **to create a collage that illustrates various American subcultures. This activity will require them to use **higher-order thinking skills **as they analyze, compare, and evaluate American culture alongside its subcultures.
Additionally, students will complete a short preliminary assignment in which they will interpret a political cartoon. This approach caters to** visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners** in grades 5 through 12, ensuring that even older students will find it engaging!
